Window Not Appearing
I'm a AP Euro history student, and want to take the practice tests on the Houghton Mifflin site.
http://college.hmco.com/history/west...dents/ace.html They work fine at school, but at home, when I actually have the time to take a test, the windows that are supposed to open fail to. Nothing happens. When I right-click and select "open in new window", it just gives me a "This page cannot be displayed" error. Any idea what might be causing this, and how to fix it? I'm using the basic IE that comes with XP (is it IE 6?) Does it have anything to do with java? |

Hi CyHunter, try this. Close IE and go to Start > Run and run the following commands one after the other, each line followed by 'enter':
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll regsvr32 urlmon.dll regsvr32 comcat.dll regsvr32 actxprxy.dll regsvr32 Shell32.dll regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll regsvr32 Mshtml.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll Run each line individually. After each run, you should see a short message stating the command was successful. Now reboot. Did this help? |

I ran those lines...they all said successful, but I'm still having problems. I have a similar problem with opening up some thumbnail images, but in those cases I can just copy the target address and paste it in the address bar, and view them that way. When I try to do that with the practice test link, I can't. The address I'm copying is:
javascript:%20ow('/cgi-bin/SaCGI.cgi/ace1app.cgi?FNC=AcePresent__Apresent_html___his_mc kaywest_07_18',0) When I paste it in the address bar and hit enter, it doesn't do anything. |

I had some problems opening those tests too. I think it's a problem with their server, it seems to take a long time to respond but not all the time. You might like to email them and see what they say. Try this addy for the first test:
http://college.hmco.com/cgi-bin/SaCG...ckaywest_07_01 Can you open it now? If so, addy for Test 2 below, just change the last number as you go. http://college.hmco.com/cgi-bin/SaCG...ckaywest_07_02
