any ideas?

Hi, this is probably a stupid question, but if anyone can help me I will be very grateful. Everytime I try to open Word, the Windows Installer box comes up, but if I cancel it, eventually Word opens by itself. Also, I can't open files directly from the desktop or floppy by double-clicking them, I have to go into a blank document and open them through there. I just moved into a new research space in college, the computer is inherited from a previous researcher. It's not a major problem, just very annoying.

Sounds like some components of word may either be corrupt or were not installed correctly. Windows Installer may be wanting the Office disk to correct this. If you have the disc or acess to it, try letting installer do it's thing.

You could also try reassociating .doc files with Word and see if that helps at least with being able to open from desktop and floppy.
