greetings. windows ME, amd athlon 1700, 256 ram, lots of space on my hard drive. recently i have downloaded jpeg images off the web (until a week or so ago they were saved as jpegs having the normal jpeg icon and could be opened in photoshop, etc.), and when i go to open them in photoshop they cannot be opened due to "wrong file type". when i go into "properties" on any of the images it simply lists the file type as "file". the icon associated with all of the images is a simple image of a windows window (rather than the normal jpeg icon). they are downloaded as jpegs (the download "save" window shows the type as Jpeg (only other option is bitmap). when i send these images via email, they appear as jpegs, and if i save one emailed to myself it is saved as a regular jpeg file, and has the icon denoting jpeg (picture frame, mostly red inside it, with a blue diagonal mark out the upper right corner), and when looking at properties, general, the file type is listed as "jpeg". i tried a program that converts images and tried to convert to jpeg, but nothing happened. does this make sense? any ideas on 1. how to download images so they are recognized as regular jpegs (with the proper icon) rather than just "file" (which won't be opened by photoshop), and 2. how to convert the existing jpeg "files" to recognizable jpeg "jpeg files"? all suggestions welcome! thanks.
