Computer almost unusable...please help!

I'm at my wits end with our computer. It constantly, as in every two minutes, reboots itself or freezes. Occasionally I get a blue screen with a message Unexpected Kernel Mode or something like that but usually it just reboots. We've already taken it back to the place that built it twice. They said it had viruses and supposedly they got rid of it but no...the problem is worse and worse. We have Windows 2000. I'm not a computer tech by any means and I'm just so frustrated....this computer was custom built, very expensive and we can't afford to keep taking it in to the shop. Any help would be so appreciated!

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Have you tried starting the pc in safe mode (restart and hit the F8 key a few times until you see the choices)? Before you had your current trouble, had you installed or ranany of the known virus/adware removal apps (ad-aware, spybot Search and Destroy)? If you can get Windows to boot up in safe mode and you do not have the above apps, see if you can download and install them.

Reformatting is always an option, but the 'last' option.
