The Registry is a heart and soul of any Windows system. It contains information that controls how your Windows appears and how it behaves. Most applications today use registry to store configuration and other important data. When you install an application, a new registry entries will be created. This entries will automatically be deleted when you uninstall the application. Unfortunately, it is not always work that way. Sometimes, you will find that some applications fail to remove their own registry entries. This entry will become obsolete.

After a long period, after installing and uninstalling a lot number of applications, your Windows registry will contain a large number of obsolete entries. This will significantly increase the registry size and thus will slowdown your computer, because Windows will need more time to load, search, and read data from registry.

To keep your computer in top performance, it is recommended to periodically clean your Windows registry.

Why using TweakNow RegCleaner?

Fast: using a high performance engine, TweakNow RegCleaner quickly scan your registry to find obsolete entries.
Accurate: using complex algorithm TweakNow RegCleaner accurately identify obsolete entries.
Secure: TweakNow RegCleaner automatically create backup file before deleting obsolete entries from your registry.
Flexible License: TweakNow RegCleaner available in two licenses, commercial and non commercial (free).
Just try it ! You find the TweakNow RegCleaner is the fastest and the most reliable registry cleaner program available today

Only cos I'm extremely careful with it! To be honest, I don't find Easy Cleaner or tweak this half as powerful as some of the others around. jv16 power tools is far better but I s'pose the ones you pay for are aren't they?

Jv16 PowerTools

is perhaps the best ever Windows Registry maintenance tool. It's extremely smart and powerful in sniffing out and safely removing registry entries that are useless or broken. It blows the doors off even commercial tools like Norton's "WinDoctor," and is the best way I know to keep your Registry compact and error-free.
The Registry Tool
--Remove registry entries from software you thought you had removed long ago
--Modify and remove unneeded shell extensions
--Remove file types
--Uninstall or remove software from the Windows' Add/Remove software list
--Add or remove programs which automatically start with Windows
--Scan the registry for invalid entries
--Search the registry for any data with the registry finder
--Fix many common registry-based problems with the registry fixer
--Automatic backup feature
The File Tool
--Find duplicate, zero-length files, temp files and broken shortcuts easily
--Find and remove unused shared DLL files
--Extract information from executable files, MP3s and from images
--Mass rename files with the unique file renamer tool
--Change attributes of thousands of files with a single click
--Find and replace text within text files
--Combine files
--Encrypt files with Twofish, Blowfish, Rijndael, Skipjack, or Square encryption algorithms
--Securely wipe your sensitive data so it can never be restored
--Automatic backup feature

Download the ultimate tool for power-hungry PC users.
By Roger Chang Printer-friendly format Email this story

Do you ever feel like you have absolutely no control over anything: not your life, your job, your girlfriend, or even your PC? Do you feel powerless as all you hold dear slips away like grains of sand through your fingers? Then now's a perfect time to download and try out jv16 PowerTools, the ultimate tool for any PC user who feels like a tool. Are problem apps automatically launching when Windows starts? Jv16 PowerTools can fix that. Are uninstalled programs still showing up in your Add/Remove control panel? Jv16 PowerTools can fix that, too. Discovered that your spouse is cheating on you and owes the IRS $6,000 in back taxes? You'll need a lawyer to fix that one. Jv16 PowerTools won't patch up a shaky relationship, but it sure can tweak your PC.

How do you use it?

Jv16 PowerTools is part registry editor, so when it asks you if you wish to back up and save your current registry, say yes. When you launch the program you'll be presented with a minimenu of tasks and options. You use the first four -- registry tool, file tool, temp file tool, and backup tool -- to run and manage your changes and, if need be, undo them.

· Registry tool

This tool might be our favorite. It manages and cleans out the Windows Registry. You access its functions from the top-most menu on the left, except for registry cleaning, which you find in the drop-down Tool menu. Many of these options are geared for experienced PC users, so you may need to read up on an option before you use it. · File tool

The file tool is a lot like the Windows file finder. It can find and locate files, locate only media files, back up files, and clear out Internet Explorer's cache, cookies, and history. ·

Temp File tool

This tool lets you limit how many megabytes are used up by the temp files that typically infest a system.

1.Select in the Directory window the drive or folder you wish to regularly clear out.

2 In the Files to Delete window, indicate the file type you wish to clean. Use * * for all files or *.jpg for JPEGs, *.mp3 for MP3s, and so on.
3. Click Add. The task will be added to the list at the bottom. You can then choose to execute, modify, or remove the entry.·

Backup tool

This tool lets you manage all those backups you should be making when you use jv16 PowerTool. You can restore, rename, and remove backups.

Here are some other options: ·

Access Control

Use this to stop miscreants from using jv16 PowerTools for evil. Select the user profile and tweak the permission settings. At the bottom are buttons to add, remove, or rename users. ·

Preferences

English not your first or best language? Use Preferences to change languages, tool menus, and keyboard shortcuts. ·

Internet Update

Update the program through something called the Internet. As the name suggests, you should probably be online to use this feature. ·

Switch User

This cool option lets you switch from power user to wimpy user. Note: Decline in self worth entirely dependent on user. ·

Exit

To leave. The act of going away or out. An opening that permits escape or release. To close the program.

THIS IS THE LAST VERSION WITHOUT THE DROP DEAD DATE.

Version 1.3.0.195

hi guys this is good cleaner

HDCleaner clears the fixed disk and removes unnecessary file garbage from all available drives. The most important groups of files, about BAK, CHK, GID, ~ * *, TMP, are before-configured already and need to be only selected. After the selection of the desired drives HDCleaner starts scanning and searches the data . Individual files can be included or excluded directly into the search procedure.

This program needs the Shell32.dll with at least version 4.71

functions

scanning temp for temporary data
look duplicate files
clean hard drive
internet explorer cache
and others
also it has functions for checking disk

give it a try sure it will be very useful

Dr. System 2.1 is a maintenance utility for windows 98 , ME and XP, designed to make common system maintenance tasks faster and easier.

Dr. System 2.1 operations are faster than regular system maintenance tasks because, Dr. System 2.1 runs the standard Microsoft Windows system utilities in a highly optimized environment. Because most other functions on your PC are disabled in this environment, there are fewer external applications writing to disk or using up your valuable system memory while these programs run.

Main Features Include -

(1). Perform Maintenance task like Temporary file cleaning, Defragmentation and disk error checking with ease and fast ( as it does all this when there is very little Disk I/O).
2). Schedule Maintenance tasks.
3). Automated Operation with no user interaction, option to shut down PC after completing jobs.
4). Detailed Log Viewer.
5). Easy to Use , Simple GUI ,
6). Comes with Mr. Clean a Safe Temporary File Cleaner with Click and Go ease nothing to configure, works in safe mode without any configuration

Ummmmm, CleanUp (http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/download.html) anyone? (I've seen it mostly used when removing virii, but a great program IMHO)

Covers your tracks on the Internet. CleanUp! deletes traces of you Internet activity that get stored on your hard disk. These things include:

Browser cache
Browser History
Cookies
Bookmarks and Favorites. Deletion of these is optional and disabled by default.
Supports all popular browsers. CleanUp! provides full support for the three most popular browsers used under Windows: Internet Explorer (versions 1.x-6.x), Netscape Navigator/Communicator (versions 1.x-6.x), Mozilla (1.x), Firefox (1.x) and Opera (versions 2.x-6.x).

Supports all popular newsreaders. Newsreaders including Microsoft Internet Mail and News, Outlook and Outlook Express, Netscape Communicator and Operas newsreader are all supported. CleanUp! optionally empties the newsgroup caches for each of these and can, also optionally, remove all subscriptions to newsgroups.

Removes Windows files tracking your use of the computer. This includes things such as removing "MRU lists" (storing a list of your Most Recently Used files) for various applications, emptying the Recent Documents folder, deleting entries from the Run and Find Computer dialogs, emptying Recycle Bins, emptying temporary folders, removing some unneeded registry entries, optionally resetting the high scores for Windows games, and more.

Supports other applications too. Almost all Windows applications store information on your hard disk about your use of the program - even if this is as minor as an MRU list. CleanUp! includes support for a variety of commonly used Windows applications.

Runs on 32-bit Windows. The same version of CleanUp! runs on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, Windows NT 4.0 Server, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional and Windows 2003 Server.

Future proofed. What does this mean? By supporting user-defined (i.e. custom) directories and file specifications, CleanUp! 3.0 (and later) will be able to handle cleaning up of temporary files created by newer browsers and Windows applications.

Secure file deletion. You can optionally choose to "Wipe Clean" files as they are deleted. This takes a little longer but instructs CleanUp! to overwrite the files several times before deleting them. This makes it almost impossible to recover those files from the hard disk using even the most advanced data recovery techniques, ensuring you the greatest degree of privacy.

Free. That's right, you can keep on using this program and it won't expire. You are offered the chance to register CleanUp! and pay a price you think it is worth. Think of this payment as a tip - so please contribute something. This payment will help with the continued development of CleanUp! and allow me to make a living. This payment can be as low as $5 or as high as you wish. If you find CleanUp! useful and continue to use it, please register. See below (http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/#register) for details.

Fast. Remove hundreds, even thousands of files and free up many megabytes, and sometimes gigabytes of disk space all in a matter of minutes.

Simplicity. A clean, simple interface - designed for novices, with an Options dialog allowing some flexibility for more experienced users.

Privacy information. There is no spy-ware contained in this program. We do not monitor your actions or e-mail. When you register (http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/#register) this program, we will not give your e-mail address or personal details to anyone.

This program is so simple to use, you'll be cleaning up your hard drive and protecting your privacy all in a matter of minutes!

Well as far as removing old and/or orphaned registry keys/entires; this surely doesn't affect overall system's performance (neither any registry operation's performance), since the registry querying (and writing) is not a linear process, although it is true that they make registry hive-files (and their respective backups) unnecessarily bigger.

P.S., If maybe anyone would like to; for more details on the subject see my home-site, the articles.html (http://users.volja.net/tayiper/other/articles.html) page, the "REGISTRY-CLEANING SOFTWARE MYTH EXPOSED" section (and possibly also the "preface" test on hints.html (http://users.volja.net/tayiper/hints.html) page)

/EDIT: Although as also stated on my home-site (the "articles.html" page), I do use one "registry cleaner". But I rather call it a "registry maintainance" program. It's called Registry First Aid (or shortly "Reg1Aid"), from KsL Software, published by RoseCitySoftware.

The most important is that doesn't "clean" registry automatically, but simply scans registry for orphaned invalid/orphaned data, and after that it then scans hard-disk for possible solutions, and only offers the best one, i.e. so you still need to decide for yourself what to remove and what not.

It offers this options after the completed scan:

"Fix entry" (to the value that you choose manually)
"Leave entry without change"
"Delete entry"
"Cut Invalid Substring" (for more complicated values, for instance values with more than one path)

It really is a powerful and reliable program and you can download it here: http://www.RoseCitySoftware.com/Reg1Aid. However, it's a SHAREWARE or paid-for program, i.e. it's not a FREEWARE program.

its all opinions so theres no true top 3. As far as a magazine that had a comparison, its done every year in several magazine. You can find them by typing the one you are interested in into google with the word review and do a little research yourself. You can also go to download.com and search for the one you are interested in and read their user/editor reviews.

It think for Windows XP. The best optimizer and registry cleaner bundle is XP repair Pro. Its finds duplicate files, cleans the registry, fixes errors and defrags. Very cool toy. It give me pre-warning when my system is getting slow in a hazardous condition. Also rated one of the best downloads by download.com and tucows.

I downloaded and tried http://www.nkprods.com/ncleaner/ registry cleaner. It looks good to me. It can clean a wide variety of files---that could be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.
Maybe some of the computer whizzes here can evaluate it a post their findings.

I know the Registry Mechanic is a great tool for cleaning up Registry to improve system's performance, but I need to cost $29.95 to buy. Now I use Wise Registry Cleaner which scans the Windows registry and finds incorrect or obsolete information in the registry and for free!!!:rotflmao:

How about a Registry defragmenter. I use NTREGOPT and it does a great job! Just run it like you do windows defrag and that's all there is to it.
There also is ERUNT which is a registry backup.

I adore this, also the guys who wrote it; entirely configurable and also educational, and with warpspeed engine....and safe! They also offer a Pro version.
