Hi tech guru,
I just installed a linksys wireless -g router to my main computer which runs xp.
I have a netgear wireless pc card in my laptop which runs win me. they can both connect to the router and out to the internit via DSL. I have tried to set up a home network to share files and our printer, this seemed easy enough given the xp walks you through it. But after following all the steps the other computer does not show up on the network.and I can't connect to the main onefrom the laptop computer. is there a way to start from scratch with your expert help and set this simple network up?

much thanks

You don't need to need to start from scratch. I'm assuming you have the printer installed on the desktop, and it's shared ....

From your laptop, open a command prompt, and try pinging the XP machine. (if unsure how to do this, please post).

If you can ping, then try Start --> Run -->

\\computername\sharename

sub your computer name for the name of your XP machine, and sharename for the share name of the printer.

If you have wWireless connection and IP Address then may I again surgest you look at the following

Workgroup name must match on both computer. right click on my computer and goto Network ID computer 1 = comp1 for name and set workgroup to workgroup do the same for computer 2 = comp2 now the login name for both computers need to the same on both is John logis into computer 1 make a user called john on computer 2 and visa versa. Then to share folders etc.. right click on the c:\ drive and pick sharing and allow all users to change files. check any firewall software that may be loaded.

best of luck
