I have recently been getting this problem with my Dell Inspiron 2500 laptop, which is just over 3 years old and running Windows Me.

When I start-up it displays the Dell Start-up screen and sometimes the 'Windows Me' screen and then the screen goes dark. The laptop is still starting up and if you tilt the screen you can faintly see whats on the screen but looks like the screen has gone dead. It will then continue to start-up.

This problem starting infrequently but is now occuring most of the time.

However, when I can get the laptop to start in safe mode it will load fine with a perfectly visable screen. I have tried scanning disc, Norton, etc and restoring my system to an earlier date but no luck.

Please Help

Many thanks

check to see if there is an updated driver for your monitor/video adaptor from dell. Maybe the problem is there.

I am experiencing the exact same problem with Windows 2000 SP4 Rollup and all updates applied to date on a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop. I was thinking if this was a Win 2K issue, but it seems like it is also happening on Win ME.

Please start you own thread in the appropriate forum! It avoids confusion for everyone. ;)

If what renegade600 suggests does not work, you may have a hardware issue with your screen.

I am getting exactly the same problem using XP SP2, sounds like the laptops have got something dodgy with them. Has anybody been able to sort out their problem yet?
