View Full Version : Having Trouble with Wireless Network. Help

Hi I need some help. We have two computer in are house. We have one down stairs. And one up stairs in my room. Down stairs the computer it connected to Comcast Cable Internet. That is run in to a D- link Wireless router. Up stairs on my computer i have a Wireless PC card. The PC card I have up stairs is a Xterasys 54 Mbps 802.11g card. I cannot get the Up stairs computer to connect with the down stairs computer. I would like to Access the Internet from the upstairs computer but cant get it to work. Can someone please help me out. On both sys. I am Opp. Windows XP Home. Please Help Someone. Please Let me know if you need more Info. Thanks

Are you even able to pick up a signal? There should be a utility that came with your Wireless card that will allow you to see your signal strength.
Also, make sure you are using the same SSID on the wireless card, as you are on the router.
Are you running any firewalls?

Good advise from scott; however check these as well. R U Running XP Service Patch 2 if yes then check in services for the Windows Firewall and Windows Wireless Configurator. Turn both these services off and disable it has a wonderfull effect on wireless networks.
also as above advise check SSID and Check Channell No. then you should be ready to rock... Note the IP Address should be given out from the router along with all you DHCP/DNS/Gateway etc..
