Advertisement pop up

Help;Is there a way that i can disable pop-up ads. everytime I visit a site i get 4-5 pop-up advertisement.Is ther a program I can dwn.load to elimate so many,sometime I have problems trying to close, I have windows 98.

Not something I've got any experience of but there are programs that you can get to do that... hopefully someone will post some recommendations

Bear in mind that a lot of websites would be out of business without adverts

I use a program called POW that works OK
the only thing is, it has to be programed
each time you get a new popup.
But onced programed you won't get that popup again.

Pop-Up Stopper the V2.6 free version is another one which proves very effective.

If the pop ups appear and stay open, as in not going to your tools bar (where the clock is along the bottom of your screen), try hitting the keyboard keys "alt" and "F4" together!

Just a tidbit extra...some pop ups will block java scripts and pictures that are supposed to be in the actual webpage you are wishing to view...
