Hi,
I'm not sure where to start with my problem. I got a new hardrive and installed ME on it, then I installed all the chipset drivers for my mother board. Which is a SiS MS8308E.
After this I went to install my Lexmark X 1150 all in one printer. When I plug the printer into the USB port everything works as usual and windows adds the new hardeware.
When I put the printer's installation CD in I press install to start the installation then I get this message:
"there is no valid port for the driver"
I don't know whats wrong. The only thing I can think of is a compatability issue between the mother board and OS. Am I completely wrong? Is there a solution to this?
Thanks for any help it is most appreciated.

A couple of things. Check the link on this page (http://www.lexmark.com/publications/eng/x1100/index.html) for the quick setup instructions. It saids to cancel out of the 'add hardware' wizard. Next you may what to update your driver from here (http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:386:0:0&emeaframe=&fileID=1185).

poo. I didn't see that part. How can I remove all traces of the printer, so when I put the USB cable in I get the new hardeware wizard again so I can click cancel?
Thanks for your help.

Not sure. Try going to printers and deleting it. Then reconnect it and see what happens.

I removed every trace of the printer and still the same thing.
If I try to install the printer software from the CD without the printer connected, it asks me to connect the printer. If I connect the printer, I can't stop the found new hardeware message.
Me installs everything automatically, so when I go to install the CD software I get the same message there is no valid port for the driver.
Can I disable plug and play and connect the printer via USB, so it won't add the new hardware automatically but still be able to see the printer connected to the computer?
Thanks for your help.

OK try removing all USB controllers. This is from http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q310575&ID=KB;EN-US;Q310575
Remove and reinstall all USB controllers
To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and click Control Panel, and then click Performance and Maintenance.
2. Click System, and then click the Hardware tab.
3. Click the Device Manager button.
4. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
5. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
6. Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.
7. Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.
Also, before you reinstall make sure there are no 'Lexmark' devices showing up under 'Other' in the device manager.

Thanks a lot z1p. That did wonders. I hadn't relised when I had done it, though when I reinstalled the USB controllers I didn't take out the printer from the USB port. So when I restarted the computer, ME installed the new hardeware for the USB controllers, then when I put the CD in to install the software - everything worked perfectly.
Thanks again for helping z1p.
