My MSDOS.SYS files are gone. How does that happen? I have the command and IO sys but not the MSDOS. Aren't these files needed for the computer to run correctly??

Yes, MSDOS.SYS is a system file used to boot into Windows.

Are you viewing Hidden/System files?

I checked and the check mark was in the do not show hidden files box.

You will need to enable show Protected Operation System Files option to see the file.

Now they show up and I haven't done anything to the system. I can't understand this computer. Thank you for your help.
