Connection Problem

Hi ,
I recently ran into a problem with my high speed modem.

The patch cord that runs from the modem to my computer seems to be the only one that will work with it.

I've tried other wires (cat 5, 5e , 6 ) of various lengths and ran them directly from the modem to the computer and none work.

I cannot connect to the internet and the lan link light on my modem shows no connection.

I discovered this through trial and error while trying to run wire to another room to set up the PS2 for online play.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Have you checked that you have the correct type of cable (patch vs. crossover) ? See attached diagrams for the wiring for both.

That was exactly the problem. It was a crossover cable. Everything is working fine now. Thanks allot for the help.
