Message Board Titles Don't Display
Running WinME via Linksys Router and Cable modem, some message board message titles are missing when I open the topic. They are usually present on the first page of the website. This happens on several message boards designed much like this one. Icons appear, authors appear to the right, but the title of all messages is missing so there's nothing to click on to open the message.
Any ideas? |

dmack,
This sounds like a strange problem you're experiencing. Is it possible you could give us a link to a message board of the type you're having this problem with ? Also, a small description of exactly what you do see and what you don't with respect to the link you give would be helpful. Also, please let us know what browser, and version you're running.

Do you have any ScreenShots of the forums?
Are you running a customised browser? (AOL, Compuserve etc.)

Above is a link to an example forum. I'm sorry, I don't know how to post a screenshot here. When I view the above page, column1 icons are visible, column 2 message titles are missing, and column 3 authors are visible. In other forums authors can be clicked to get their profiles, THEN I can get their last message posted, but messages titles are still missing in the original screen and I can't open the thread. I'm running IE 5.5. I also have AOL 7.0 on the computer for email but I do not run it with IE as it disables IE's browser and the AOL Browser will not work even when IE is closed...maybe one of you guys should just drop by in person... I also have CServe on the computer, but it, too is not running...only IE. Some forums work just fine, other don't. A forum that was problematic last month worked fine today. I'm at a loss... |

Let's eliminate one of the most common causes of web pages not displaying properly, there being an incomplete or otherwise corrupted version in the cache on your hard drive.
Using Internet Explorer, go to the page, then hold control as you click reload (or CTRL-F5). (If you're using Netscape do the same procedure but it's shift with the refresh button.) [ 28 November 2001: Message edited by: Steven.Bentley ]

I have reset the cache as you described. No luck. Interestingly, I can dial up connect my laptop to the same forum and it works fine. I'm having trouble deciding if it's a setting in my desktop or a browser problem. I believe I had the problem once before I connected the cable modem and router.
