I get this error when using acrobat reader 5.0. on my win 98 IBM Thinkpad A20. " a fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0167:BFF2DE73"

I can be viewing the document in Acrobat Reader for a few minures or I can only be in there 30 sec or so when the error occurs and it's always the same error. I deleted the reader and re-installed a fresh copy from the internet and still the errors occur.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

tell more about your computer, cpu, ram, harddrive size/space available. Check your system resources and what percentage does it show.

Windows 98 Second Edition
System information says I have a Pentium III but there is a Celeron sticker on the case.
5.58Gig hard drive 87% free
64MB memory
Sorry, but I don't know where to find the system resources on Win98.
This laptop is only used to run interface programs and calibration programs through the Com1 port and to read service manuals in Adobe Acrobat or Microsoft Office. It is not set up on a network or the Internet or even hooked to a printer.

Thanks for your help

try deleting any files in your temporary folder (not temporary internet folder) Was there any changes to the computer, installatio /upgrade of hardware/software right before the problem started?

also are you using zone alarm? upgrade it recently?

I deleted all the files in the Windows Temp folder. I am not using zone alarm as I am not connected to the internet or to a network. I might add though I had gone on the internet with this machine a few times in the past but only to check email, etc. No downloads were ever done. This problem started over a year ago but I have not looked at .pdf files until recently. Since then, I have taken all unnecessary programs off my computer. Things like Front Page and a money managing software are now gone. I also did a full disk surface scan and a defrag.
Indidently I got a similar blue screen message during the first attemt at doing the defrag. I will try using Acrobat again tomorrow and thanks for your help. If I reply again to this thread tomorrow, will you see it?

Thanks Dan
