I don't know if this is the reason, but personally, I'm glad they are off because people having pictures in their signatures can make a thread pretty cluttered.
That's just my opinion.

naw, man, i don't think so, once data is downloaded to ur comp, it won't make the thread cluttered, man...say, whenever u want to refresh ur thread, and thread'll load quickly cuz u got data to ur comp ya know?

but we gotta have rules though, like size limit you know, so threads also won't get cluttered, i think that's good idea to have rules, because if somebody doesn't follow rules, ban them or remove their signature....

So then you agree that it WOULD get cluttered fairly easily?
If I was to be for this idea, one rule would have to be a size limit of 728 wide by 90 tall, and no more than 2 pictures.

yea but jw, what's wrong with having images in sigs? i'm confused....hey, hyp, i'm juss saying what choices could help to make not cluttered, everything be organized....728 by 90? that's too big, lol. I think the good rule would be maximum 528x93.

Again, that would be MY opinion because I am a fan of screen resolutions of 1280x1024 or higher. :emp:

I am against images in signatures. To me it makes forums look so unprofessional and cluttered. Also it increases bandwith thus more server space is needed and those with dialups will have slow going.
IMO - They really serve nothing but self promotion in professional forums. They are okay in graphic, gaming and other similar forums. But in help forums nope.
Something else to consider, cth is here to help. Most individuals are having computer problems and in the majority of cases they are using their troubled computer between crashes. For those having resource probems an influx of graphics, especially those of the animated type could push the computer over the edge thus making it even more difficult to get help.

I do have one problem with the signatures, though. I wish that there was a higher limit to the number of characters allowed. For someone with a lot of links in their signature, they aren't able to include much other information. Take my signature for example, I cannot add another link because there is no more room. I tried to add a link beside the Spybot link that lead to the DSO Exploit fix. It's not the end of the world, not even close. Just an inconvenience. I would never say that it should be unlimited, but like 150% of what is allowed now would be perfect, for me anyways.
Just my two cents on that.

Images are disabled in signatures for 2 reasons:
Firstly, when I first created CTH I was on dialup. Images in signatures kill page times for dialup users. This used to drive me insane.
Secondly, they do make threads cluttered as some people feel that their signature image should even be greater than a banner ad 468x60 pixels.
