I am a new member. It seems I have lost all of the information that was on one of my floppy discs. I can't open the files in the a drive that I saved on the disc. Someone told me it might be damaged, but to try it on a few other computers, which I did to no avail. I had it set so you needed a password to open the disc. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Is the disc damaged and if so is there any way I can still acess the files on it?

suzyq,
Welcome to CTH.
One idea, be sure that you don't have the write-protection enabled on the disk. It's the little black square in the upper-right corner of the disk, when looking at its backside.

It's not enabled as far as I can tell. It looks the same as my other disks. Thanks anyway.

Sorry, I couldn't help you further. My knowledge of floppy disks/drives isn't very extensive. I will research your problem online and see what I can come up with, though. Sit tight and perhaps another member will be able to help you sooner!

Try this (http://kb.indiana.edu/data/ajgg.html?cust=106999.48898.30) link. I would assume that if the information on this page does not get your disk working again, something must have happened to it to damage it and render it unusable. I am not sure about that but it seems uncommon to have this much trouble with a simple floppy disk and have it still be in working condition.
Best of luck to ya!

What program did you use to create the password? Do you get a password prompt when you access the disk? What error message do you get and is it the same error message on all computers you've tried it on?
