After installing Win2k (uprgraded from WinME) I cannot watch DVD's or utilize my TV card properly. Only some of the image shows, things on the right hand side of the screen are cutoff (for instance if a word were to read "dreamworks" it only displays "dreamwo") I have updated the driver for my display adapter (an Intel 810) and have tweaked with all the monitor settings from reducing the screen area but nothing seems to work. I even went as far as buying a new DVD rom drive but the problem still persists. Can some one please help. Thanks in advance.

I use real one player to watch DVD's and my tv card is a TV master. I really don't care much about the TV card but would really like to get my DVD situation fixed. Thanks for the response.

Just for fun can you try another way to watch dvd's like use another player. You can get a free one here If the screen is still cut off then we know its not just real one. If you can view dvd's just fine then we know the issue is with real one player.

Ok one thing you can try if you haven't already is to make sure that Windows is fully updated. I know it sounds lame but alot of times all those patches can actually fix issues related to windows. So run Windows update and make sure you are current. Another thing you can try "but I don't think this is what will fix the issue" is to go to start/run and type dxdiag That will give you a window with all sort of test you can run on everything from display to sound. Try those things and post back. I personally am not a big fan of the "upgrade" but since you have already done it I'd like to help you fix the issue. If nothing else you could always back up the files you want and do a clean install instead of an upgrade. I would like to see this issue fixed however with no clean install needed.

I have only had Win2k on my i810 board temporarily so have never experienced the issues you describe but what drivers are you using? Chances are you are using the Windows2000 built in driver. Visit your motherboard manufacturer website for an up-to-date set of drivers (for the motehrboard as well as the graphics).
If you can't find anything at your motherboard site, try these: http://www.intel.com/design/software...atform/810.htm

I ran the dxdiag and in the notes section it read "no problems found." I also went to windows update and downloaded all the patches (most of then I already had since windows update ran itself after I installed the OS). I tried playing the DVD and the problem is still there. Is there any hope without a clean install? (I have over 18 gigs of files I have to backup before I can do a clean install). Thanks.

Well if windows is fully patched and there are no visable issues then I would have to agree with Smurfy here. I know you said that you updated the drivers but it sure sounds like a driver related issue still. Smurf posted a nice link there and yes you would want to get the latest video drivers but also chipset drivers for windows 2k. Knowing what brand motherboard you have would help us post a link to some chipset drivers for you.
