I understand exactly how Kazaa works and I know what peer-to-peer networking is all about. I'm not confused by any of this. I just have a quick question. I've read that the program "P2P Networking" that must be installed with Kazaa is actually adware and does not contribute to the functionality of connecting to other users through the network in any way. Is Kazaa truly dependant on this program, or is it just made to look that way? I want to uninstall this program, but still use Kazaa to download mus.. err.. um, I mean, manage my media files. Yes, that's it. ;)
Can someone clear this up for me?

Howdy:
If you read KaZaa's EULA, it will say right in there that removing any of the spyware/adware included with disable Kazaa..
Sounds like you are using Kazaa to pirate copywritten material so, live with whatever gets you !!

Well, that's a pretty stupid thing to say, seeing as how the GAIN Network spyware is picked out and removed by Spybot, which I would hope the average user uses from time to time. The EULA may say that, but I asked about the reality of the situation, which is entirely different. Removing spyware disables Kazaa? I don't think so, but nice try.

1. That doesn't have anything to do with what I asked, and the part of your response that did was incorrect, so thanks for that.
2. I really don't know anyone who uses Kazaa for much else that download copywritten material, it's not like I'm burning CD's and selling them.
3. Any artist or band who sees money as more important than having their songs played and their voices heard worldwide doesn't deserve to see a dime from their work. A true artist does what he does for the enjoyment and personal satisfaction, not for money. I believe that is the basic definition of the word '*****'. I don't know, maybe that's just my opinion. Maybe it really isn't all about the music. Oh well.
That's my two cents on the topic. Thank you for attempting to answer my question, and if you choose to take any of the above personally, I am sorry for you. Just my opinions, feel free to give them value by arguing or opposing as you wish.

But before I do...
You obviously realise that Stealing Copyright material via P2P is illegal but do it anyway.
You try to justify your actions by claiming some moral high ground about artistic integrity and commercialism of the music industry but what you are doing is simply depriving people of a legitmate source of income through record sales - The artists themselves, the Music Industry employees (probably their sole source of income), The Music Industry (Greed merchants).
I'm sure you would not walk into a record store, pick up a 1/2 dozen CDs and walk out without paying?
Or maybe you would since in your opinion recording artists should give their music away free?
Sorry the truth doesn't suit your view of the world.
But aside from the moral and legal arguments against P2P copyright filesharing, the crux of your question as to the dismemberment of the particular P2P application you chose to use is in clear breach of the EULA of the software concerned and will, if not disable the software, will disallow you the legal right to use the software in the first place. But hey, since you break one law, breaching your EULA contract with a software vendor is a small price to pay, right?

Well, uninstalling everything but Kazaa itself never disabled anything for me, but what the hell do I know anyways? Maybe I just got lucky.
