Please Help a blank screen
Hello - my daughter says she tried deleting a program and all she got was a blank windows screen. I don't know how she tried to do this but I know it was the wrong way! So now when I booted her win98 [se? don't know] it boots thru all the way to the Win98 splash screen and then bingo-blank - nothing - nada - zilch: not even a Start icon. Do I just reinstall a copy of Win98Se that I have on hand .. or is there some feature to make everything reappear? Ps - she does not have a bootup disk. Thanks for any help.

You can make a boot disk on any working Windows 98 system in Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Startup Disk. Have a clean (empty) floppy disk handy, click the "Make disk" button and follow the prompts on the screen.
You can also download a file which will make a boot disk from www.bootdisk.com. Have you tried booting the computer in Safe Mode? To do that, repeatedly press and release the F8 key during the boot process. Don't hold it down or the computer will think there's a stuck key and stop with a "keyboard error." Sometimes, just booting into Safe Mode and then rebooting into normal mode will solve the problem. Without knowing what was deleted and how it was done, it may be that reinstalling Windows will be the next course of action. |
