Help,

I have had a problem for a while now however I have a new twist. If we lose power in our house obviously our computer goes down but here is the problem. When we power up the computer the desktop comes back with an older version of the icons/shortcuts, i.e., back to 6/03 and some icons are simply gone. If I restart once or twice it usually comes up with the current version.

Now my problem: No matter how many times I restart it will not revert to the new version of desktop. To compound matters I am having problems shutting down and restarting from the Start up button.

I have Norton System Works 2003 and I always run the diagnostics…however I cannot find the program and I lost the CD.

Help me please

Are you describing the versions of the icons you see after a power outage as "older versions" simply because they look older?

Right-click your desktop and click Properties. Click the Settings tab at the top of the Display Properties window. In the Color Quality box, be sure the setting is at "Highest (32 bit)", or whatever the highest setting may be on your PC.

Apply, OK.

Your color quality may be temporarily lowered because of the sudden loss of power and may want to start up using a 16-bit color scheme, thus loading all of your icons in their 16-bit versions which, I agree, often look "older".
