Background : To resolve a recent startup problem, I started Windows in Safe Mode and used the SELECTIVE STARTUP feature in msconfig. By the process of elimination, I found the problem on the Autoexec.bat tab with the line which reads "C:\essolo.com". By unchecking the box next to "C:\essolo.com", I was able to start Windows in normal mode.
Question: Can I safely operate my computer by leaving this box unchecked? Or is there a better solution?

You will be fine with that box unchecked.
Typically, there will be nothing in the startup tab of msconfig that will cause any system errors if unchecked, although you might not have the experience you are used to do to a program you are used to running not starting up.
I am researching just what essolo.com is and how to remove that from your system altogether. You can remove it from a Run folder in your registry, but it sounds like something pertaining to it is installed on your system.

See if this thread (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2613) helps you. I am not sure I entirely understand your problem but it seems as though this problem (or a similar one) has been brought to CTH in the past. Let me know if that helps you at all.

Thanks for your reply. I'll take your advice and check back later to see if your research turns up anything else.

Howdy and welcome to CTH:
That just happens to be the command for your soundcard driver..
Quick fix would be to remove your soundcard via Device manager.. Reboot and let Windows find the card again.. Once that is done, install the proper drivers for that card and your OS if they already weren't installed..
