Wireless network
I have a wireless network between two rooms. The router is in one room 'D-Link, AirPlus Xtreme G 2.4GHz Wireless Broadband Router' and there is a LAN card in the back of the other computer. In the room with the router, the internet modem is also there. The internet works on both computers but with a very poor connection. I have been told that i am not supposed to have my broadband modem if i have a router as the internet should run through the router. I have Blueyonder Broadband. Could you please tell me any changes which i could make to recieve a better connection and to remove the internet modem.
Between the two computer we cannot share files or access anything on the other computer apart from internet being shared. I would also like to know how to share a printer between thes two computers. They are both Windows XP home edition SP1. Could somebody pleas reply asap thank you very much! |

Well you will need the modem unless your router has the modem built in. The one you have does not. Here is how it should hook up:
DSL line or CATV line-->Broadband modem-->Router's WAN port Router's LAN port(s)-->wired PCs Router's Wireless obviously connects over the air When you say poor connection, what are you basing this on? You can use some bandwidth measuring tools at http://www.dslreports.com/stest For sharing, you will need to make certain that the ICF is disabled. You really do not have a great need for a software firewall as you have a hardware firewall with your router. ICF will make file and print sharing inoperable. |
