In all of my games that have advanced graphics such as Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour and also the AquaMark benchmark there are tears. Nothing I have done has mede much of a difference. Even on the highest resolution there are a lot of tears. I have tried turning the vertical sinc off and on and everything else I could think of to do. My computer has a 17 inch IBM ThinkVision C170 CRT monitor, 3158Mhz Pentium 4, NVIDIA GeForce 6800GT graphics card, 6.14.10.6703 Video Driver, total memory of 1024, and 700 free memory, and DirectX 9.0c. Please help!!!

Hi FoxURA
Are you playing from the CD, or have you installed the game on your Hard drive? The HDD will be faster.
Also you may have other programs running in the background, that are using clock cycles that you need for the game. Try turning them off while you play.
Check for the presence of virus programs and the like. Update your AV scanner and do a full scan. Check on the Cyber Safety board in this forum for other security things that should be rectified.
If you are not sure how to do any of these things please ask. BF

I did what you suggested... It did not work. Can you think of anything else that I could try?

Hi Fox
Not sure where to go from here. What operating system do you have? What programs do you have running. Are you sure you did a full AV scan, my fast machine takes longer than the time between our two posts to do a full AV scan, (but I do have a lot of files on it). BF

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "tears".
Are they present in the DirectX diagnostic 3D acceleration tests?
Start>Run>DXDIAG

a tear is when it looks like the graphics are being ripped in a game, it can be extremely annoying...
I am running XP and everything checks out in the diag utilities. I have no idea of what is going on

Hi Fox
You say that you did these scans etc, but have not posted anything back for us to see what is happening on your machine, it's a bit hard to diagnose on the scant information you give.
Please answer the various questions asked, there are some good diagnostic people here, but it is hard to work in the dark.
How about for a start doing a HijackThis scan and posting the results here, it might give someone a clue as to what is happening.
Also post the results from the diagnostics test that you did, again it might help an expert work out what is happening.
Finally a screen capture of the effect may also point someone in the right direction.
We will help you, if we can, but we need your input. BF
