Hi kpasch,

I would first think the OC server at the college might be
down but...it's not very likely unless somebody really
botched some maintenance or something like that.

It could be you've lost your certificate for the college.
I never heard of an IE update eliminating certificates before.
Did you remove IE v5.x before installing v6.x?

If you still can't log on in the morning you're going to
have to ask the comp-lab to give you the url to create
a new certificate and get an exchange key.

In Windows98 you can import from the Certificate Wizard
IE menu
Tools
Internet Options...
Content
(tab)
Certificates...(button)
Import...(button)

These are known trusted sites that are imported to your computer
so you can log on to secured data sites like Microsoft, Verisign, etc.
Basically the roots download prevents the popup of Do you trust
this site...blah blah blah

I tried to get the "Help desk"(???) to help me with this problem but, they do not know what the problem is. I did not uninstall IE 5 before I downloaded IE 6. Someone suggested that I uninstall IE 6 and revert to IE 5 I havent tried that yet I'm afraid on not being able to get on the internet at all. any other suggestions???

Don't be afraid, do it.
Go through the procedure as if you were going to update Windows.
Once your machine has been scanned by Microsoft select
Show Installed Updates
look on the list for the IE 6.x Already Installed and hopefully
there is an Uninstall link.

Haven't forgot about you. I have some things on my plate and will check out some resources for you later today.

p.s.
If you could email me the url your trying to log in at it might help.
Sometimes edu(s) don't want this url posted publicly. Make
sure it's ok with the edu before you email.
sp_i_der at yahoo.com

Edited for p.s.

I've read through OpenConnect's info on their server software that
your college is using. There seems to be nothing out of the ordinary
about a client(you) interfacing with the sign-in at the server(the college).
It should just be a matter of signing-in with your username an password.

I don't see installing IE 6.x as being a problem with OpenConnect's
Web Connect software.

It's best to wait for a Monday to speak to help desk. All the senior
help desk people don't do the weekend shift and when you spoke
to them before you probably had a younger member who didn't
want to say "I don't really know anything about this, I just fill
the printers with paper".

Check with someone senior at help desk...actually request to speak
to someone very knowledgeable on the server for the college.
