Can't get to Secure Sites
I am running IE6.0 with 128 bit SSL and can get to the internet through AOL 6.0. But when I go to site requiring a secure connection I get "server not available; The page cannot be displayed." I also can not use IE to connect to the internet (when AOL is running).
I have changed the security level in both AOL and IE to low and have checked that it is using SSL. I am running 98. Please help! thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

hi helpme, welcome to CTH
![]() In IE, go to Tools>Options and look in the connection tab, go to LAN settings and check that your settings for proxies are the same for http and https (secure) sites If you've got a duff proxy setting that would stop you getting to the site, otherwise can you explain what errors you get?

Thanks for the response.
I looked in LAN settings. The only thing checked is "Automatically detect settings." Nothing is checked under Proxy Settings. This is the sequence of an attempt to a secure site: 1. A pop up windows screen: "Security Alert; You are about to view pages over a secure connection. ..." 2. I can see it trying to connect. The lock symbol comes up on the bottom right. 3. The usual screen comes up when you can't get to a web site comes up. It says: "Cannot find server; The page cannot be displayed. THe page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web Site might be expereincing technical difficulties or you may need to adjust your browser settings." I get the same messages when trying a multitude of sites so I'm sure it's the browser settings. Some additional info. This started when I upgraded to AOL 7.0. Tried a bunch of stuff and final reinstalled Windows 98 and went back to AOL 6.0. Can't seem to figure it out! I also am concerned that I can't use IE to get to the web when connected to AOL. Thanks for any help. I am out of ideas to try. |

I fixed the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!
I checked on MStech site and found a fix. 1: Remove all network components (don't restart computer) 2: Remove dial up communication through add/remove program 3: Remove the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Currentcontrolset\Servic es\WInSock2 4: Restart AOL AOL they reloads the drivers and apps. Although I can't beleive it worked, I am able to get to all sites and my IE browser is working. |
