Um, thats Dial Up Networking for ya, its just slow..shouldnt take more than 60 seconds tho..

Try editing some of your DUN settings in internet options to give yourself a faster log-on to the ISP server.

I'm going to guess that KGrace was asking about getting
hooked to the Internet faster with a dialup connection.
I love guessing mystery posts

Go to My Computer then Dial-Up Networking
right-mouse click on your ISP(internet dialup account)
and select Properties on the General(tab) there is
a button at the bottom just below Connect using: called
Configure...click on that there are 4 words on tabs at the top
there...click on Connection and there is a button on the bottom
right called Advanced...click on that
there is a cell(fancy name for a place to type) at the bottom called
Extra settings: type s11=47

Now the trick here is it makes the modem dial faster. S'matter of fact
way faster, you can here it when it dials. The number we put after
s11= is dependant on the telephone service and the wires underground.
In other words the better the wires and your position to the nearest
telephone switch(fancy name for the building where your neighborhood
wires meet) the better you can speed dial.

So we start with s11=47 and if that dials ok then try s11=46, then
s11=45, then s11=44...you get the picture. Keep shrinking the
s11 register(fancy name for a setting within the modem) till it doesn't
connect to your ISP anymore.

All in all we can buy ourselves about 4 seconds more to hook up
with a modem.

No, Deaf, I didn't delete it to make you look stupid. It was a stupid question, which I realized after I posted it and then went back and reread it. (BTW, thank you, Spider, for the reply.) It just seems that when one answers a question and begins their reply with,"Err" and "Umm", it tends to make the person asking the question feel as if the replier is saying "Duh! You are so stupid."

With boards (this is one of the reasons UltimateBB is so fine) I find
you really have to look at the users join date ÷ their post #'s ÷ their
status. As a third measure I look at their nic as well, it usually tells
a little bit about a person.

I don't want to step on any admin-toes here I'm still a CTH greenhorn myself,
but I'll go out on a limb and say on behalf of all the helping members here we
hope you don't refrain from asking more questions. We like to help. Errs and
emms are rogue elements that crop up from time to time and if we see any in
the future we'll lash them to a barnacle covered wharf pole and make them sing
all the songs from The Sound Of Music...and of they don't sound just like Julie
Andrews we'll make them sing John Davidson songs
.

You're a Sweetie, Spider! And no, I won't refrain from asking questions. I LOVE learning about computers. If it weren't for the fact that I homeschool my son, I would probably be in front of this thing all day!
You, Mr1drful, Maxxmillian, and Theoran, just to name a few, have been a great help to me, without making me feel stupid. I'm sure you've helped many others, as well. So, again, Thank You.
K.

I'm guilty of the umm-ing and err-ing myself, but not implying that the question is dumb, just that I don't know the answer and I'm taking a guess at it

But there are no stupid questions, plenty of stupid answers (many posted under this user name ) but no stupid questions
