I was influenced by a mod to post this so here goes, I have problems with my Outlook Express, I haven't been able to use it effectively, But don't get ahead of me I don't even know how to do much of anything in it. I need to know a few basics that are obvious obstactles in using it, And back to my problem it seems I can't recieve or send email through my OE. Thats all I know what is wrong with it for now. Help is always appreciated.

I take it that you have created one or more mail accounts in the program.

We'd really need to know what kinda problems you are actually having, in order to try helping. :)

Ahhh, I haven't really set up an email account on the OE, and the connection wizard baffles me a this certain point, the "Email Server Names" part of the wizard I don't know what I should exactly put in it.

For that you need to find out from your ISP, have you already created an email account through your ISP? Once done, you'll prolly find somewhere on your ISP's website, that there's info' with regards to setting the email account up with your OE, that's assuming of course that your ISP allows this. :)

I can't really find a place on my ISP's site that allows me to register a OE account with them, if thats how it is done. I just use hotmail or yahoo but, I'd like to get one with my ISP since it'll load up much quicker and allow me to do more in a shorter time.

Could you show a link to your ISP's website? :)

Sure, Here (http://www.scrtc.com/) it is

lufbra

POP incoming mail server= pop.scrtc.com

SMTP outgoinging mail server= smtp.scrtc.com

NNTP news server= news.blue.net

Email format= username@scrtc.com

personal web site format= www.scrtc.com/~username

South Central home page= www.scrtc.com

All in lowercase letters-no Caps

Okay, I found this info' above at their site. They would have your Username as the email address, so it'd be something like vercades-at-scrtc.com

Open up your OE and click on Tools/Accounts, then click on Add/Mail. The wizard then starts up, you can "create a name" for the new account, then procede and add the relevant information needed, you will also need to know the password for your ISP username.

For the incoming mail server you should add...

pop.scrtc.com

For the outgoing mail server (SMTP) you should add...

smtp.scrtc.com

You might also have to "check on" "My Server Requires Authentication"

I think that's all, but just to test that it works, try sending an email to your newly created email address. :)

I followed your instructions as closely as I could, I set up the account on my OE, after that I tryed sending myself a mail and it didn't come back, I tryed logging on to my ISP's site and check mail there but it says logon failed. I don't really know what to do OE confuses me so much.:dizzy:

My only problem is finding out how to set up an account on my ISP's site.

Okay, here's another page on their website...

http://www.scrtc.com/setupoutlookexpressemail.html

Obviously I can't log in there, but if you can, there maybe the chance to create your own email account. Other than this, you may have to contact them asking for help creating an email account. :)

Thanks for finding that page, I couldn't find it anywhere in their directory. It basically says what you just said, so I've done everything correctly as far as I know, but maybe i didn't send it correctly, The "To" option is the email's destination and the Cc is a secondary destination for outgoing mail right?

This didn't work with my old ISP either, it got as far as sending mail but it never reached it's destination.

"To" is the email recipient, "CC" would be to send a "Carbon Copy" to someone, "BCC" would be for sending a "Blind Carbon Copy" to folks, this one would mean the recipients would not be able to see all the emails you sent a mail too.

When trying this, are you getting any errors?

Have you selected the "My Server Requires Authentication"? If so, try it after "deselecting" this. :)

Alrite something is happening now, its looping in trying to send these emails to pop.scrtc.com and tells me this.

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'pop.scrtc.com', Server: 'pop.scrtc.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] Password supplied for "******" is incorrect.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

And yes I have checked the my server selection box. I'll try it by unchecking it.

You may be using a wrong password there.

Another suggestion would be that if you have a firewall, try shutting that down, then sending a mail.

There's this little annoying popup of the login for OE, that keeps poping up all the time too.

lufbra
December 10th, 2004, 02:12 AM
That could be due to a wrong password being used.

Vercades

My password should be correct, I never had problems with faulty PW's I have loads of progs PW'd and remember them all, I'm postive its not my PW but maybe OE is just messed up. Sorry, sorta frustrated here.

I know the feeling of being frustrated with things like this, but at least there's hope that this can be fixed, since you are getting something, even if only errors.

Have you tried disabling the firewall, if you have one.

lufbra

Also, have you tried logging into the webmail? :)

Vercades

I have tried disabling my firewall from SP2, I'm not sure I have any other ones enabled at this time, I tried logging on the site but it tells me I used the wrong ID and PW. Its still not working, OE never worked on any of the computers we have in this household, 3 computers to be exact. Do you think I could use a different method of registering an OE account?

lufbra

The only way to set up another email account, would be something like a gmail account which now allows you to use that set up through OE. Outlook Express is just the program for setting up email accounts, it's not an email service in itself, if you can get my drift. :)

If I was you, and since you are having problems logging into the webmail, I'd give the ISP a call asking them to help you set up an email address through the webmail, or they can at least tell you your correct username and password. :)

I'll ring up my ISP sometime this week and see if they can get this sorted out for me, Just wondering what does OE exactly do? What I think it does it allows you to set up your own mailing server on your computer and you need an account with your ISP's site/servers in order to send it out to other parts of the web, as well as recieve? I could read through the help manual, but I like brief descriptions too much mundane reading makes Vercades a dull boy. :P

You pretty much hit the nail on the head, with your thoughts of what OE does, it's a program, not a server like your webmail, Hotmail, Yahoomail etc. :)

Any luck from your ISP? :)

You are not gonna believe this but I haven't put any accounts in my OE, my little brother had to tell me how to do it. :rotflmao:
