Hi!
I am trying to use a Custom Form Handler but I have run into a few problems...(surprise!!)
When I try and set the PROPERTIES to allow scripts and programs to be run it is greyed out and I cannot figure out how to get this option to be available.
I am not all that familiar with FrontPage...I have been teaching myself on a hit and miss basis...been getting a lot of hits but this latest problem seems to be a BIG miss...
Thanks,

I've not used FrontPage, but I believe that the custom form handlers require extensions on the server, it may be that these aren't there and that's what's causing the option to be unavailable.

This custom form handler installs itself in my (web space) on the server...but even if I open a New web (start from scratch) this option is still not there...that is why I am really scratching my head over this one!

Not real savvy with Fp myself either.
But. . . I assume it's a WindowsNT server and the form handler is WindowsNT compatible correct?

What I am "using" is WebGenie CGIStar Professional because as I understand it does not need to have Server Extensions on the WebServer it has some way of 'faking' it. Clear as mud? From what I also understand it is an NT server and the Scripts are NT compatible..
I have to admit at this time I am too cheap to move to a new full service web hosting arrangement...I am looking into it but I need to pull in some more revenue first...plus I have this huge appetite for tinkering around and finding other ways to things....and this seems like a great challenge..(with some outside help)
One thing I should add....is this seems to be a glitch in FP - something is set somewhere so that this option is greyed out...and it is not the scripts that is causing the problem because I can route to WebGenie's cgi-bin without any trouble but thats it...
Now how clear is the mud?
:D

Maybe try reinstalling FP to see if you can restore that greyed out option?

Did that too! But I am going to be doing a repartition of my hard drive and reinstall of everything from scratch....(ya the lights were on but no-one was home). Yet I can't see that this will really change anything as 3 weeks ago I did a reformat to install Win2K...so if this reinstall/reformat fixes the problem...I am laughing...if it doesn't - well I am no farther ahead...

Sorry I haven't given an update lately, but I have been absolutely swamped...so needless to say this little project has been put on the back burner for now...

grr how did I miss that? :D

That will be refering to the CHMOD values for a UNIX based server. It doesn't apply to Windows servers.

Okay don't blow your top  ....BUT...I actually bit the bullet and am using a real webhost, however, that option is still greyed out and I am publishing to a UNIX server! LOL
But I think I have found a creative solution to FOOL FP and it seems to be working...Ignoring that option I set up my own cgi-bin and woohoo it works!
Thanks for all your help and patience!!

Excellent, cgi is far better than FP's version anyway :)

Ya but if FP's version worked it would be a LOT less work!
