Is there any way that I can direct link to an MP3 file to my idrive account. If not, are there any storage places that will let me do it.

By idrive you mean Apple free hosting right?
Not sure really. You should be able to just use a standard link. like any other HTML I would think.

Not really. Idrive is at http://www.idrive.com and they let you store up to 100 MB of space on their servers. It's kinda like freedrive.com and xdrive.com
The only thing is, is that I do not know how to direct link to the files on it. I think they block you out from doing so.
If any of you know a place that let's you upload MP3 files (like idrive) and allows direct download, then post a link, plz?

I'm not sure I know enough about this, but if you are meaning to have the MP3 file playing on a web page, I'm not sure that I've ever seen that happen on web pages! I do know you can play midi files, and maybe you can also play wav files too, I'm just not sure about MP3's.
Maybe I'm totally lost here, maybe I need help too!!!
Dave.

Hey,
From what my understanding of your post was you just want to put a few mp3's up for download and a link you can give out ?
If so, I think you're right about Freedrive. From memory (I haven't used it in a while) you cannot link to a specific file unless the person whose downloading is a member of freedrive or has your user details and pw.
Best thing I'd suggest would be to open an account with www.geocities.com, (http://www.geocities.com,) www.homestead.com (http://www.homestead.com) so you can upload your mp3's and other files their and will be able to get a simple link to give out for download. One drawback I think also from memory having not used freehosting in a while that yer mp3's will have to be zipped.

MiShY your right about my question.
I've tried geocities and homestead before. Everytime I upload a file larger than 2MB the page times out. I want to be able to upload files onto the server without going through my web browser (like a webfolder). It seems to work better that away.

Haven't used it but I've heard bit about www.50megs.com (http://www.50megs.com)
If you're hosting mp3s you'll need all the space you can get http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif Haven't checked to see if they will let you host mp3s, some hosts don't.

You can also try Xdrive. I beleive it has private folders and public folders when you sign up. As far as mgs go, well I'm not sure.
25 mgs to 100?.?.

I might try out 50 megs, but I need an FTP program to upload the files. Anyone know a free one? Also xdrive doesn't allow direct download.

oooo Ftp to a free server is rare if not unheard of. You can try though. What OS are you on?
Transmit is an EXCELLENT Mac FTP client free you can get it by clicking here and a download will start.------> Cyber Tech Help Free Macintosh Downloads (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/Downloads/mac/Transmit%AA%201%5B1%5D.5%20FAT.sit.hqx)
As for a PC I understand CuteFTP is a good FTP client for free. Not sure where to get it though. If you search www.Download.com (http://www.Download.com) I'm sure you'd find it.

Couple of freebies...
xoasis.com is slow but gived FTP upload, portland.co.uk have ftp upload and are taking an age to set up my account :/
I use Fetch on the Mac, on the PC I've heard some good and bad things about Leech FTP, also heard some scaremongering about it being spyware.
Download.com is the place to go for either.

Alright I found a ftp program, WS FTP. The thing is, is that I cannot link to 50megs from another server. So I have to build my sound page on their server. Now all I need to do is to find out how to remove the banner from it.

Hey,
Which free-host did you decide upon ?
BTW a few words of caution about removing banner ads (this is ofcourse assuming you don't pay to have them removed).
Firstly, if you do (when you do) get caught by the hosts your site and contents will be deleted straight away.
Secondly, free hosts barely stay afloat nowadays as advertising revenue provides such poor click rates. They earn their money by putting those banner ads on its hosted pages because they provide a service to you.
I know banners are ugly and slow loading, but if the companies could work a way so people didn't need to have the banners I'm 100% sure they would.
That aside, if you chose virtualave and you're getting popup ads look on their main site as there is a line of code you can add to all of your pages which will stop the popup and put it on the page.
Banner ads are not impossible to remove, but your site will get closed.
It's always best to pay the little money they ask for to have them removed.

I registered a dot-com at www.namezero.com. (http://www.namezero.com.) The server for my main site is at http://www.brinkster.com . Brinkster offers no banners.
The reason I want to get the banner off, is to make my site look right with the rest of the site.

Hi,
namezero if you got the free service registers your .com and in return you wear their banners on your site. The only way to get rid of them is to pay for the domain which you can do thru them.
Their service is a redirect as they do not host your site (assuming again you're using the free service).

Yeah, I found a hex to remove the banner for namezero. And I redirected it to my brinkster account.

Site took forever to load (DSL connection) and when it did finally load it didn't function in Netscape on a Mac. No buttons worked anywhere. Just though I'd let you know.

I've been trying hard to make it work on Netscape. When I try it on Netscape, it works, except the scrolling text.
The buttons work fine though. I guess it could either be your version of Netscape or the Mac. I'm running version 4.7 .

kapitalk,I was able to get in your site but it does take a lonnnnng time to load!! Example is this image (http://www15.brinkster.com/hellsent/images/comingsoon.jpg) which is 124K. When you could very easily reduce it down to 20 or 30K (http://pages.hotbot.com/photo/palws/images/comingsoon.jpg) .
Other than loading very slow because of all the graphics etc, nice site.
Netscape 4.7.6.
My 2¢ worth.

I do thank you for comming to my site. The images are made from my partner. He makes the images, and I mostly do the updating and html coding. Since you guys are having problems with it being too big, I'll contact him to make it smaller. So the site can load fater. Thanx for the feedback.

I had a customer who wanted to market their cd's. They wanted a site that would play a clip of their song in the background.
Since I wasn't very familiar with the method of doing so I had my homework to do. To make it short I discovered that most hosts consider it a breach of their TOS to upload mp3's to their site. Certainly the free hosts are not going to allow it.
Just wanted to give you a heads up. Cause if you are breaching their terms of service you could find your site shut down. And if a lot of folks start downloading they will certainly notice you.
Best bet is to be upfront. Let them know what you have in mind. And see what they will and will not allow. There has to be some that will accomodate you.
