Enable Cookies

This is probably a simple problem, but it is driving me nuts. I have IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158
This is a brand new computer, only a few weeks old. Whenever I try to get into my hotmail account, I get the following message:

Your Web browser options are currently set to disable cookies. To use .NET Passport, you must enable cookies.

Now, I tried going to Tools, Internet Options, Privacy. Here, I set the bar to the lowest setting, Accept All Cookies. This did not fix the problem, however, and I still get the same message. Anyone know how to enable cookies so I can get into my email?

APPLIES TO

•Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 for Macintosh

I guess this doesn't apply to me. Also, both of these links said the cause was that the date and time are not set correctly, which I believe they are. I hate being such a pain, but do you have any other ideas on how to fix this?

Ok try this, on the IE tool bar go to: Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy -> Advanced > Override Cookie Handling. There you will be able to enable the First and Third Party cookies.

If your running a firewall try shutting it down and try it then to see if it works.

If your running Win XP SP2 then follow this:

http://www.utmem.edu/helpdesk/sp2/sp2firewall.htm

If your running a third party firewall just right click the program and shut it down.

This way we can see if thats whats causing this issue.

Did you give this a try?

On the IE tool bar go to: Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy -> Advanced > Override Cookie Handling. There you will be able to enable the First and Third Party cookies.

I did try to override cookie handling. The weird thing about the firewall... it's set to off. But when I go to the Windows Security Center, it still says it's on. When I click Windows Firewall, it says it is off. Strange.... I tried turning it back on and off again, but still when I go to the Security Center, it says it is on.

The Privacy tab does let you control cookies for the Internet Zone and by default the Restricted Zone blocks all cookies. Some how hotmail or one of the passport sites must of been added to your restricted zone.

Also....when using .net passport there is more than one site involved that you have to allow cookies for....passport.net, passport.com and others. You might want to consider adding the passport sites below to your Trusted Zone.

Contorl Panel >
Internet Option >
Privacy Tab >
Click on Edit >
add each the following domains and click allow
(all of them are needed in order to get into hotmail)

dmt.com
hotmail.com
passport.com
passport.net
msn.com

click ok >
click Apply >
click ok >

Close your browser.

Open the browser and now you should be able to log-into hotmail without a problem.

Well, I finally figured it out. We have McAfee Security Center installed on our computer, and there is a section there where it also asks what sites you can allow cookies for. I allowed all the sites you said on there, and it worked. I just want to say thank you so much for sticking with me through that, that problem was driving me nuts! I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into helping me with my problem.
