Well I'm not going to use a UBB cause I don't want to pay for a server.

Glad to hear it, Kommodore. Paying for a server should be the least of your worries. You can get hosting for less that $15 (US) per month in a number of places. One would hope that you don't use UBB because you have a bit of ethics. Or at least fear prosecution.

A little of both actually, you have persuaded me not to break the law. Be proud.
(That was not the least bit of sarcasm)

Does anyone know if Netfirms is Unix or NT?

I helped someone set up an Ikonboard on Netfirms and it was UNIX. Whether or not all netfirms servers are UNIX or not I couldn't tell ya. But I would think they were.

Personally I prefer UNIX servers ;)

Damn Ikonboard is difficult to work. I uploaded everything with the correct CHOMD values and when I open the Install.cgi file it always says Data not Found, Help not found etc.

I've given up on IkonBoard now I'm going to try a phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com). I have a new question how can I create a php document and save it so it won't be phpinfo.php3.txt?

Assuming you're using Notepad, in the Save As... dialog make sure you're on files of All types not text files :)

It still saves as phpinfo.php3.txt. Oh well, I have a new question what free hosts can host PHP files?

Kommodore,

Pls can ya post a new topic for each new question :)

When saving the file in notepad do as Steven said "Save As... dialog make sure you're on files of All types not text files" but when you input the filename you want to save it as save it as xxxxx.php (where xxxxx is your filename)

This does work.

As for php hosts I don't know any off hand but hopefully someone else may be able to help you with that.

As far as PHP hosts go, try this lot:
www.f2s.com (http://www.f2s.com) www.xoasis.com (http://www.xoasis.com) www.portland.co.uk (http://www.portland.co.uk)

but being freebies the speed isn't great on any. xoasis is the only one of the three I mentioned with adverts
