Hello and merry christmas to everyone

I cant for the life of me remember if ive posted this problem already and if so Im sorry.

Ive just installed a new graphics card (128 mb radeon 9800 pro) and cannot get grand theft auto 3 to play. The disc is in the drive and i click the icon to start it, it displays the blue rockstar games logo and then it vanishes and nothing happens. Ive reinstalled the game and the same thing happens. Vice city on the other hand runs perfectly.

Anyone know why this might be happening?

There's a patch for the game on this page (http://compactiongames.about.com/library/games/gta3/blgta3patches.htm). Seems like the patches are getting released before the games hit the stores. ;)

I went to the link you suggested and have now got a list of possible things I can try . One is to close all background programs except explorer.exe.

Im worried about doing this because I get warnings that it might cause system instability. There is such alot of things on the list , most of which I dont know what they are.

Ive tried all the other things suggested and the game still doesnt play. Im only left with this option. What should I do?

If you're using XP, go to Black Viper's site (http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm) and use the guide to turn off all unnecessary services. Start by using the settings in the "Safe" column. If that doesn't help, try the settings in the "Power User" column.

I am on XP with service pack 2 and have been to the black vipers page but none of it makes sense to me. There are 50 items on my running processes, alot of which are not on the blackviper list.

There seems to be endless svchost.exe on the blackviper list. How do know what these are on my own running processes?
