Here is a good one for you.
I have been using Freewebfile for awhile on and off. Created a few pages/uploaded a bunch of file etc etc, then around two weeks ago the sever went down. It came back up on line again yesterday . So I started doing a bit of organizing with the folders.

All of a sudden *late* in the pm they did a major "change <-?" on me!!!

This morning I tried to login -> http://www.freewebfile.com/cgi-bin/home/manager.cgi
So I backtracked on the address (url) to -> http://www.freewebfile.com/

Then I went to my errr index page -> http://www.freewebfile.com/palws/

I followed the links from -> http://www.freewebfile.com/
But got lost on what it is all about?
I'm not even sure if its a good move or a bad one pertaining to my account.?.

Can one of you brite techies inlighten my.
Should I just shine them on or what?

Have fun Scott, Mr Bentley <-hehe, Mishy and whoever else. :)

Bill

btw..... Mishy I've got to check out that link. sheesh.

I don't know what you mean by untoward Steven ?

Are you saying perhaps when you go to those links that you see nothing wrong?

For me when I go to those links, I get the 404 message other than the http://www.freewebfile.com/ and then I get this -> click here (http://palws.homestead.com/Files/YO/hello.jpg) .

By untoward, I did mean that there's nothing at all strange there.

I don't see that default Apache message, maybe something like this has happenned:
Site moves to new server
DNS records updated to point to new server
Your ISP hasn't updated its DNS to point for the new address
Old server reinstalled, your ISP's out of date DNS points to the old server.

The whois record for freewebfile.com says

Record last updated on 01-May-2001.

Ask MiShY about waiting for ISPs to update their DNS records - he has first hand painful experience of this :D

Ok then I guess? I sure would like to see what you see though Steven.
I'll wait till my isp gets off its coffee brake then. :D One of the other sites which I have been using has now got the same thing going on. *frown*

Thanks Audrey. I do to now <---kbear don't come here gzzz but now it doesn't except my username. Strangers in the night lets hum a few bars. I emailed them to ask what going on.

I'm sure they'll get back telling me to quit my day job after hearing my wonderful singing voice. :)

I have a great set of new mid files all set up
on a page ready for yo'l to hear but quess where the page is.LOL

:) See Me (http://palws.tripod.com/) :)

When I go to your home page (/palws) I get

Hello, Welcome!

I just opened up this site, and haven't had anytime to collect my thoughts on how I want to set it up yet.
So hang in there folks.
I'm thinking in the lines of some sort of information site regarding photography perhaps. Although for now it is just a thought. As soon as work stops getting in the way, I'll get into this more.

on a background that looks like a nice laminate wood floor :D

So as to why you can't see it, there are a couple of possibilities:

Your ISP needs a kick up the proverbial
You're using one of these horrible programs that claims to speed up your browsing. All they do is cache the DNS to your hard disk to save DNS lookups, which screws things up when a site moves server

A potential solution is to use someone else's public proxy server in your browser.

This should mean that the request is done via their DNS server which may be more up to date.

A quick web search came up with this list (http://www.freebiechannel.com/proxylist.html) of public proxy servers, although I probably wouldn't recommend using such a service routinely.

No Steven I think its the isp.
I don't have any program just NS or IE5.

Anyway the sun is coming up and I'm going to hide from it. :)
Don't you make any vampire cracks now. :D

That proxy idea may well let you bypass the ISP's DNS server

Hi there Mr.Bentley.
Here is what I did concerning freeweb. I was going to go your idea but I thought I'd shoot off another email first only with a bit evidence to back my claim about the server not recognizing my username. Slowly but surely step-by-step LOL. Hey at least I was past the 404. Anyway, when I got to the sigh in part and the diolag box popped up I took a SnapShot (http://www.freewebfile.com/palws/yo/Error.jpg) of it. Then to conferm this "NO such account", I went through the sighing up process (like as a new member) to a point were I could get this other SnapShot (http://www.freewebfile.com/palws/yo/palws.jpg) !!

I sent off an email asking "whats the deal hear Guys" (<- sort-of *grin*) along with the SnapShots that I converted to jpg.. An hour later I could get in to my account BUT I never received a reply from my last email?!? So I've no idea if the email worked or someone finely just got off their coffee break. All I know is I'm in again at freeweb. Then again this happened before and it went down again two days later.
One site down. I've another one that's some what slow and I haven't been able to get in for a couple weeks now.

Thanks for your help Steven! :)
Hope freeweb stays put for awhile.

I'd say you need some width and height attributes on the images so they load quicker ;)
