Internet problems
Hi
About 4 days ago ive been having trouble connecting to this one site. I never had problems before. All others sites work fine. I cant connect to the site's ftp either. It keeps timing out when i ping. I thought maybe the site was down....but nobody else was having that problem. So i tried to connect with a proxy and it worked. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I dont wanna use the proxy. |

Check to make sure that your firewall is not blocking the site (disable it) and if it is not causing the problem, open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers etc. Look for a file named hosts and open it with Notepad. See if there is a reference to site that you cannot access. It will look like this:
127.0.0.1 Local Host 127.0.0.1 www.y-hosting.net If you find any entries in your hosts file that reference the site that you cannot access, delete the line/s, save the changes, open IE and try again (dont remove the Local Host line though). Let us know how you get on.

it only says:
127.0.0.1 Local Host there's nothing under it. I dunno if it helps, but when i try to get into the site's ftp (i use smartFTP) , with no firewall, i get this: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. with firewall i get this: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine I also have a router installed....in case you need to know ^^; thanks again! |

Are you running Norton, it has been responsible for a number of these issues recently. Disabling it is not sufficient, the fix is to uninstall it.
If that doesnt help, try contacting the Webmaster and see if he/she can offer a suggestion, perhaps they are blocking your IP if you can surf by proxy.

I contacted the site owner and he told me to do a nslookup on command prompt...this is what i got:
***Can't find server name for address 192.xxx.x.x: Non-existant domain ***Default servers are not available Server: Unknown Address: 192.xxx.x.x Name: zero.acitia.com Address: 66.98.170.21 um..maybe i should contact my ISP? thanks for the suggestions Last edited by adri_chii; January 2nd, 2005 at 05:24 AM. |

Sure, talk to your ISP and see what they say. In the meantime, I'll transfer your topic to the Internet Forum. Someone else may have an idea.

the webmaster told me that name-server configuration appears to be broken but since it is returning the correct IP address for the server, I should be able to connect to it. but...I cant.
I called my isp and they told me it was probably a compability problem...that it probably wasnt on my end...that there's nothing wrong... which doest make a lot of sense since i'm the only one that cant connect.

This is not an area that I have any expertise in adri_chii so I'm afraid I will not be much help. I tried connecting via the IP address generated by nslookup and got a cPanel error "There is no website configured at this address"
Maybe try the webmaster again. This doesnt seem to be a straightforward issue.
