Shutdown for no reason

My computer has been shuting down all by itself when I'm in the middle of doing something or when I'm even AFK. Sometimes it just doesn't happen at all for a long time and then again it will occassionally shutdown 4-5 times in a row.

I don't know what is causing this issue but i've read some other peoples issues as they relate to my problem and still no luck on finding a solution.

I will give my system specifications just incase they may help at all.

Windows 98 & 2000
Maxtor 37.2Gb HDD
Albatron nVIDIA GeForce FX5700
1xCompaq/Samsung CD-R+RW Burn Drive
1x(pc2100)All Components 256Mb DDR Ram Stick
1x(pc2100)Kreton 256mb DDR Ram Stick
1.8Ghz Intel Pentium 4 (478 Socket) 400Mhz FSB
350W Power Supply - P4 Compatible
Trend Micro PC-cillin Antivirus 2002

Thank you!

how much free space on the harddrive do you have? Also what operating system. You show two but which one is causing the problems.

You could also run this test

Ahh! I did suspect my system of over heating. My thoughts are its probably my video card, the model I bought from Albatron is know for faulty fans and I do hear a load buzzing noise coming from inside my computer sometimes. I use both, well I used 98 when I did the reformat but I upgraded to 2000 and it still happens. I use 2000 though. I have 11Gbs left on my hdd. My mother board did come with a software and driver disc that I think contains a temperature test for my systems components. Also I have a old monitor if it overheats could that be causing the problem?

thats what i think try to check the temps if they running normal about to 40
to 60 c if over 60 or above it can toast your hardware maybe that why causing the pc to random restarts

cheers!

Hmmm..

I think i will continue to keep scaning for viruses just incase but as my buddy said when i told him my problem he said most if not all viruses give some kind of messege before your computer will restart.

I got around to taking my computer apart today i cleaned the gpu, my cpu and my slots among other things put in an extra fan in my power supply just in case it could be overheating. turned it on and now its running fine, but there have been times when it has stoped for a while and come back.. so i'll just have to wait and see.
