Hey, could anyone help? Last night I turned my computer off like normal then turned the mains off. This morning I turn the mains back on, everythign else on the extention plug turns on, like my screen and speakers, I go to turn my computer on but nothing happens, I have no lights on inside either. It's like its not getting any power, could anyone help? :(

Hi Fox

Welcome to CTH

Recheck all connections, plug the power cable directly into the wall socket, check it is firmly into the back of the PC. If still no good substitute with a different cord if you can.

If still no good disconnect all cables except the power cable from the PC, turn on and look for lights, sound of fans, HDD etc. See if the CD-ROM drive tray will eject or not.

If completely dead remove power cord, open cover and look for signs of burning, sniff the motherboard and the power supply, to see if there is any burnt smells.

If nothing found, disconnect from power remove all cards and memory sticks and plug the power cord in and try turning on, see if any lights come on or the fans start. Turn off right away and remove the power cord.

Post back details of what you find and we'll take it from there. BF

Okay, did all that. I had no burn marks or anything and checked all the wires. I have just taken my: Graphics card, hard drive, cd drives, and ram out. I then powered it on and the red light on the mobo came on. Nothing else happend, no fans came on? Can you help?

Thanks

Hi Fox

Well your power supply is at least working to some extent. Next I would carefully clean all contacts on all cards, use a white rubber to remove any oxide on them and replace all cards. Put all plugs in ensuring they are seated correctly, power up and see if the computer boots.

If it doesn't list what does work in addition to the red light. ie does the CD-Rom tray eject, do any fans run, does the power supply fan run?

If none of these I suspect that it's your power supply. If some do but the computer will not boot, it could still be the power supply, but it could also be the motherboard.

Try an new power supply first. BF

Okay, everything is back pluged in. I made sure everything is pushed in tight. I powered it on, all I get is the red mobo light. Nothing else works, no fans, cd drives don't open. Is there anything else I can try. Do you know why this is happening to my pc, I can only think it's the power pack?

Thanks

Hi Fox

Yes it sounds like the power supply has failed. Try a new one. BF

Hi Fox

I hope it does the trick, there is always the remote possibility that the Mobo has failed and is locking the power down, but the only proof is to try a new power supply. Good luck. BF
