hi, i have a Pentium 2.4GHz w/512 MB RAM, and an ATI Radeon 9200 w/128MB. but 3D games run very very slow. im talking like 10-15 FPS. i have only tried Quake III and Doom III. that is all i have for now so it might be an ATI problem related to OpenGL. but i have the most current ATI driver installed and its still way too slow. i know Doom III gives about any computer a beat down, but Quake III can run at 60+ FPS on a 633MHz w/384 MG RAM, and a GeForce 2 w/64MB. i know this because thats what my other computer's specs are. on this one it gets about 10-15. this is my bro-in-laws computer so i can't mess with it too much, but i'd apprectiate a tip or two. it is my belief his video card is messed up(physically) and/or ATI Radeon 9200 has trouble with OpenGL, or Norton AV is stuttering games to a halt. i hate Norton AV, even when disabled, it still runs. i have no idea why people buy Symantec, they should get bad reviews instead of good, epecially when there is a free virus guard out there that works times times better and is free.

p.s., he won't let me uninstall Norton, and he doesn't believe me. so i'm hoping its something else. i could give you a list of processes that run on this computer. the list is the same on a daily basis.
Starcraft works great though! no slowdown. heh!

Welcome phantoms

I think maybe you might need to defrag your computer, its best to only run the defrag program, shutdown all other programs that are running. The more RAM available to the defrag the better the defrag will be. After that it might work better. That goes the same way when playing games, only run that game and shutdown all other programs.

You dont have to uninstall NAV just disable it from using up RAM, but if you run XP you could go into Add/Remove Windows Components, find things that are not being used or never used and uncheck them. Please inform your brother-in-law, what will be doing before you do any of this. :) Good Luck.
