ok here's a weird one.my husband has the starfleet command game, and it refuses to start.says it cannot open ddraw.dll and to check it,so i did.dx diagnosis says 'display1'passed with flying colors.'display2'(device SiS 530) has failure at step 5 user verification of rectangles hresult=0x00000000(unknown error).this is all well and good, but itdoesn't tell me what to do about it.(i have direct7 btw).anybody have any ideas?it seems just to play this game a little while you have to uninstall/reinstall,then the next time you try to use it it won't work.

I would suggest you download the latest video card drivers you can find.
They probably won't be Dx7 certified either but they should resolve the direct draw issue.

urgh..i had a feeling that might be it http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif
for voodoo3-2000 don't you have to delete the old ones first and then add the new drivers?

I have heard of alot of problems with Dx7 you may want to try and install Dx7a first.

well i tried that and i think the drivers took however the display 2 failure hasn't changed.and we still can't play the game http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif
we have plenty of memory and hard drive space as well,so that's not it either http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif
for some reason, almost every space type game we get doesn't want to work > http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif

Give me some time I will see what I can find.
You have tried to reinstall the game right?
Be careful some games try to force their version of Directx on ya.
Also I am a bit confused. Why the refrence to SIS530? (display2)
Do you have a built in video card as well?

yea i know.a lot of them want to install direct6.
no all i have is the voodoo3,maybe that's why display2 doesn't show as working-there is no other...
but that still doesn't explain why the game doesn't want to work..i wonder if the SiS is left over from the old riptide multi card i yanked out..i thought it was part of voodoo3..

Hi
Wofffreeborn I wold go into add remove programs and see if there is anything leftover from your old video card and remove it. I would then go in and remove all references to your Voodo card from add remove programs and device manager and then shut down your computer. I would the power up and let windows find your video card and then reinstall the drivers and other software for your Voodo card. Be sure and follow the instruction that came with the Voodo card closely. I hope this will help you.

the SIS530 is part of the 'new' windows.. its a driver for video that came with Windows2000 Pro {version I have anyway}.. didnt have it with win95 or 98. So it prolly came with Win SE also. Since i'm using the onboard video in this computer, i use sis530 driver for my monitor [which is borrowed from a friend in south florida--so dont have any drivers for it specifically because its so OLD].. anyway, the sis530 driver that came with windows 2k is excellent for me and works great with this old acer thing. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/wink.gif

Direct X is up to version 8.0 for all of windows versions..
Click Here for DX8.0 (http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/default.asp)
Am downloading it now, the blah blah with it before u download say that it will automatically hunt for the new drivers you may need and install them, then you have to reboot. *s*
Happy Hunting.
