I wasn't sure which catagory this would come under so I just decided to post here. Do any of you know about cleaning your mouse? The other night mine started acting really weird...like getting stuck like it was hitting a wall or something. I have a roller ball and I unscrewed the band around the ball and wiped the ball with alcohol. But its still not quite right..meaning it's still sticking a bit. Someone told me I need to clean the posts. I have no idea what they're talking about. Can anyone help me with this?

Tami,

In a standard rollerball mouse when you take the ball out look inside and you'll see 2 rollers about 1/2" long, and one roller wheel. These are what the ball pushes and rolls against to make the cursor move.

Often a lot of grime builds up on these and its a good idea to simply wipe off the dirt.

That does sound to be what is causing your problem.

Tami 3, I also have a trackball mouse, What you need to do is just not clean the ball, but also the two rubber (I;ve no clue as to what to call them) widgets inside the actual housing. Take the ball out again, and you will see what I mean, they tend to get very dirty after time, but using alcohol on them should do the trick (you 'd be best to shut down the computer before doing this, just in case), but you'll have to let it dry out too!!
I have also cleaned the widgets with my finger nails too, didn't want the alcohol to go to waste lol, but seriously, if you try this, you will see just how dirty they are!!
Hope this helps, let us know please!!
Dave.

Thank you all so much....I didn't know the ball could come out...silly me...lol...everything is fine now and your help was much appreciated....my mouse is all better. But now I have another question. I came across something that I would love to have but don't know if I can. I don't know how to put links in here so I'll just type in the URL. What you need is vacant drive bay on the front of your computer. As I'm looking at my computer, I don't see anything like that. Could you maybe take a look at this site and what they're offering and tell me if its possible to put this on my computer or if there is something I can do in order to put it on?
http://www.frontx.com/

Thanks,
Tami

hahaha...I guess I do know how to put links on here. I just realized that maybe I should of started a new topic...sorry!

Starting a new topic is just so other's will know that you have a new question as they believe that this one has been answered and may not return to the thread.

What is the make and model of you computer?

As you look at the front of the case, look closely under the CD Drive and see if you do not have a plastic insert. You can tell because it will be about the same size as the CD drive and you can move it a small bit.
If you have this insert then you have room to install frontx. Do you find yourself having to plug and unplug item a lot? if not then I think it just gets in the way having the cables in front. it is really handy if you have a digital camera that you use offten with the PC.

Thanks Tram for getting back to me. My computer is an IBM, model 545. The only things on the front of my case is a slot for the CD Drive and the floppy disc. Nothing else. Why I thought this frontx thing was so good is because my computer sits in my living room and I have my headphones plugged in most of the time, so as not to disturb anyone. I like to listen to music and alot of sites are noisy..lol. But every now and then I want to show someone something with sound and its a pain to have to crawl back behind the case and switch to my speakers. And I am planning on buying a digital camera soon...I hadn't even thought of that til you brought it up. But I suppose I'm out of luck with this, right?

I don't know that model. If there is no phyiscal space on your case then I guess you can not use it. However is there is space that is as wide as your CD player then you more then likely have the extra unused bay.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

That's okay Tram. I appreciate your taking time to look into this for me. I guess the next time I buy a computer, I'll make sure to look for extra bays!

Thanks again,
Tami
