Computer startup problem

Hello,
I dont know if anyone has encountered this problem, if so I would be very happy for some help, here goes; I have a Sony Vaio PCV RS 320 desktop running windows XP home, it is approximately 2 years old. about a month or so after I bought the computer it started giving this problem; whenever I turned on the computer it would not boot up, the power light would come on and I can hear the fan in the power supply running but the computer would not boot up. It would take sometimes anywhere from 1 - 15 minutes of constantly turning off and on the computer before it would boot up and it would happen intermittently - it would run sometimes for months and dont give a single problem, and then sometimes the problem happens for a couple of days in a row - today it took me one hour of turning off and on before it booted up. I updated my BIOS at Sony's suggestion, tried some patches , and tried some solution that Sony offered but it did not work. I would be glad for any help you can give me

Thanking you in anticipation

sounds more like bad ram since you have on board video. open the case and make sure it is dust free also make sure the ram is seated properly.

I have heard this issue before with lots of brands. As Dan says it very well could be bad ram. I have also seen this happen to a bad mother board. Just worked on an older Gateway that did that same thing. It was hit by a power surge and had no surge protection. The motherboard was just pooched. So I'd just check ram, and if you can run the chip and everything in a known good board.

Hello,
I am sorry I did not reply sooner, I did as you said ( check to see if the ram was seated properly and I also removed the dust) but it is still having the same problem, however I also found out that if I keep the cover off and I play around with the wires running from the power switch to the motherboard it boots up on the second try. I will try the forums as you said and also see if Sony sells any thing like a kit for the power switch , thank you all for your help
