conflict between cd writer and dvd

can anyone tell me about a conflict between cd writers and dvd i have both seperatly on my comp and can't play my games anymore
before i had just a cd rom and all was good
now since i upgrade to a dvd and a cd writer i haven't been able to play please help anyone
