I wish someone would simplify the use of Win Zip for me. I got it to work a few times but forgot how since then.
What I would like to do is copy my Office 97 off the hard drive, zip it up and put on floppies so I can transfer it to our other computer.
Thanks for the help. Bob.

hey REA that's gonna be a problem man. it will take too long. if u have the office CD, no probs. If not, and u have a zip drive or CD burner, no probs. But floppies? no way. u'd need at least 200, bare minimum i would say. But hey, it's ur funeral. if u got winzip installed, just right click on the office folder, add to zip. then on this page, u should be already in the add to archive text box. here, just type "a:\office97.zip" without quotes, assuming your disk drive is A:\, and the file will be called office97.zip. U want compression on maximum, multiple disk spanning on Automatic, and make sure "include system and hidden files" and "include subfolders" are checked.
OK, after about a full week of copying, insert the first disk into the new/old computer. open the zip file, it will load and say to insert the last disk. do so, then u have to insert the first disk again and begin extracting. u will then have to put in each disk in order, so make sure u label them when u first put on the zip file.
Ok, now all the files are there. but office is not actually installed, so make sure u add shortcuts to all the .exe's in the office folder. I'm not even sure if office will work like this. If u bought the computer with office pre-loaded, try going to the store u got it from and see if they will give u the office CD, to save u weeks of loading. Otherwise, in lamens terms, "ur screwed".

Sorry to say that Office simply will not function if you are coying the installed folders from one PC to another. Never mind the logistics - even if you had a CD-Writer you'd still be out of luck. Office makes so many additions to Windows\ Windows\System Windows\Application Data folders and more importantly the REGISTRY upon "correct" installation, it is next to impossible to duplicate those changes when copying. (Not to mention the licencing issues you would be breaching).
You need the Office installation disk.

You may be better off putting the hdd in the other computer and doing an xcopy to the one you desire having office on.

If you have Uninstaller (by Mcafee who bought it out), you can 'transport' programs on your system. Uninstaller will find all the associated files in the windows registry, system files, etc..and put them in a self-executable zip for you. Then just copy it to a cd and then copy it to the new computer, dbl click on it, and it will 'restore' the program on the new system.
Uninstaller is available online as a demo, or u can purchase it and download, or u can just buy the cd at any of dozens of computer stores locally and online. It's well worth the few bucks it costs and you won't know how you ever got along without it. *s*
I do this with all my programs in case of a hd failure.. then i don't have to re-install from scratch and lose all my data information. *smile*
