i have just purchased a new computer and am going to use the old monitor and i would like to know the easiest why to transfer the info from old to new the older is upgradedfrom windows me to windows xp and the new system is windows xp professional-- if i take out the older hard drive and put in new computer with the new hard drive-- would this be easiest and quickest way to do it --i have limited knowledge to do complicated computer tasks ha ha --and would all my settings be able to transfer to my new computer help please thanks graham

If you want to keep your current programs and settings then you have a few choices.
The first two may give you problems.
1) Insert the old HDD into the new PC as the Primary drive.
The problem you may have is that the new PC will have different drivers and devices. When it boots it will look for the new drivers & devices. It could hang/crash at this point.
If it does then you could try a Repair install of the OS.
Otherwise, if you are lucky, it may find the devices and install them without a problem.
2) Take an image of the current OS/Drive and install it to the new HDD.
An image take an exact copy of the drive.
Programs such as Norton Ghost and Acronis TrueImage will allow you to do this.
You may have the same problems with the new drivers & devices though.
