Home Page Anomaly

Hi,

I usually keep my homepage as the "blank page" option. I had a problem with a Trojan, which is now resolved. I was getting a rogue search engine page showing. This is now not showing, however, when I select a new IE6 page, I get the standard "page cannot be displayed" option. I have been asked to go through some settings in IE Options to see if this resolves the problems (Security tab), but to no avail.

The setting for Home Page in IE Options is selected to blank and if I select the Home Page icon, it does go blank. I only get the "page cannot be displayed" only when selecting a new IE page.

Any ideas on how I get rid of this?

Thanks

Greg.

To try the easiest thing first, go to this page, download "WinSockXPFix" and run it on the computer with the problems. It'll fit on a floppy if the affected computer can't download anything.

Home Page Anomaly

Hi,

Thanks for this. I ran this as instruced, but when I rebooted, and clicked on the IE icon, the same "page cannot be displayed" message appeared. The blank page option is still shown in the IE Options Home Page setting.

Any other suggestions?

Greg.

Which trojan did you have? Are you sure it's fully removed?

Home Page Anomaly

Hi,

I may have been slightly premature in saying it was a trojan. I was advised it was to do with IE security settings, but I thought it may have been a trojan. I have been advised that my PC is ok with the previous problem, but this still remains.

I seem to get the problem if the Home Page in IE options is left blank, but not if a website address is entered.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Greg

You might find it's worth trying one of the spyware removal tools like spybot or adaware, these can reset some of the defaults for things like the homepage which might help.
