You are what you eat

Chicken head in a box

By Keith Rushing
Daily Press

NEWPORT NEWS - Katherine Ortega was looking forward to eating a chicken dinner after a family outing Tuesday night.

She ordered a box of fried wings from McDonald's and was putting them on plates for her two children when she found a chicken part that definitely wasn't a wing.

"I noticed that it had a beak and it had eyes," said Ortega. "I screamed." The unusual piece turned out to be a fried chicken head.

Ortega called the McDonald's on Warwick near Hickory Point Boulevard where she purchased the dinner and told a restaurant manager about it. She said the manager was pretty matter-of-fact.

"He said, 'Just bring it back. We'll send it back to the company,' " Ortega said.

The manager told her that she could have a refund or another box of wings. But Ortega said she had lost her appetite for chicken.

"There's no way I wanted another chicken box," Ortega said.

Ortega said she fixed grilled cheese sandwiches for her family. "I will probably cook at home from now on," she said.

You think she will sue even if she cooked it & put it there her self???

If the story is out then she has seen about a dozen lawyers. Hey whatever makes her a better mom right? I mean it forced her to cook. Well grill cheese anyway.

"Mom there is a head in my chicken", "aw shut up and eat, how many time have I..."
hehe

If you're willing to eat the arms, the legs, the torso, and all other parts...why such a delicate disposition over the "head"? Is it because the owner of all that you've devoured is looking you in the eye now? So now, all of the sudden, it's "gross"?

What about when you were munching on Mr. Chicken Head's right appendage? Wasn't that gross?

I had that question asked of me when I was younger and I said I would try to taste it but how do you eat something as gross as cow brains no matter how hard I tried I couldn't do it,so yes just because its part of a cow does not mean im going to eat it,would any one want to eat any intestines I think not.
theres just some areas that shouldn't be brought up.

Yep, Down south chitlins are a big thing. They come in buckets & are in all big food stores. They are hog guts.

My father used to eat chitlins, and as a kid I remember us having cow's brains on toast, it was a great flavour!!!
