Sbc Yahoo auto disconnect

I recently began using Sbc Yahoo as my isp provider (not by choice). I have come to realize that sbc yahoo will automatically disconnect you from the internet if you leave it idle for 20 minutes. I have looked everywhere in the settings and have checked to make sure that the connection computer properties is set to never disconnect because of being idle. This problem is aggravating because it disconnects while I am afk for alittle while while playing any online video game. So any help on how to fix this problem would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Try opening a second browser window (or tab) with Google news open in it. That page refreshes every 15 minutes. It might refresh your connection too. I used to use Outlook Express and had it check for new mail every 10 minutes or so before I discovered Google.

Ah, that sounds like a good temporary solution for me, thank you rockboy. But hopefully there is a way that I can stop it from within the browser. As you could probably tell I only have a 56k connection, but where I live I normally connect around 28.8k, so I try not to use anymore resources then I need to.

If your computer settings are "never disconnect" then you've done what you can. Unfortunately, nothing you do will change SBC policy. If they want to disconnect you after a certain length of inactivity then they will.

FYI, the Google news page also has a "text version" setting on the left side of the page. That should refresh within a few seconds and not use much bandwidth as it loads text only and no images.

BTW, Welcome to CTH.
