Bluelight Computer (No Sound)

Hello Everyone: I gave my brother my old Bluelight.com computer. It always worked great, but when he got it together, there was no sound from the Speakers. (although he hears the modem dialing out) I have forgotten what to check for this to solve it. Does anyone have one of these pc's that could instruct us on how to get the sound to work? Thanks, Tom

Assuming that the computer is fairly standard:

1. Check that the speakers are plugged into the correct port...not "line out."
2. If the speakers have their own on/off button, check that it's "on"
3. Double click the volume control icon in the System Tray and make sure nothing but the microphone is muted and that nothing is turned all the way down.
4. Go to Control Panel>System>Device Manager tab and if there is no sound card listed or if there are yellow warning marks in the Sound devices, install the correct drivers for the sound card.

If you don't know what sound card it has, download, install and run either Belarc Advisor or Everest Home Edition. It will give you all sorts of information about the system, including the sound card. With that information, you should be able to find the drivers online.

As opposed to not plugging them into "Line In"?

Sorry, maybe I misunderstood you.

He downloaded the Belarc and it stated NO Driver, so he installed one. Thank You for the Great Advice, Tom

re-detect.

I had a simular problem with my bro-in-laws system. What fixed it for me was to move the card to another slot & let the system re- detect it.
