What do you think?

I found this amusing..

Tue Jan 21, 1:54 PM ET

BESANCON, France (Reuters) - A man who erased his drunk-driving record from a police computer and replaced it with a winking "smiley face" graphic ended up with a suspended license and a fine when police failed to see the funny side.

The 19-year-old computer whiz had been arrested for drunk driving and summoned to appear in court in Besancon, in eastern France, the French daily Liberation reported Tuesday. Finding an unmanned computer as he arrived at the police station for his hearing, the man decided to test the good humor of the court by sneaking into the database.

He deleted his file from the computer's hard drive and inserted "Wink" - the text message shorthand for a winking smiley face -- in its place.

But rather than smiling at the prank, the judge handed the man a three-month suspended prison sentence, a $425 fine and suspended his driving license.

I, personally, like this kid's sense of humor.

zipulrich, thanks for correcting whatever I did wrong, but can I ask that it was? I didn't mean to break any rules, the only thing I posted was a smily that was used in the original article. Is it that they don't want linking to anything at their site? Can you explain this to me so I don't do it again? Thanks, bud.

That's correct.
It's using up their bandwidth if you hotlink/leech images.

Haha, sorry. Didn't mean to "leech". Thanks for clearin' that up.

Would I find information like that in a Web site's Privacy Policy? I don't want to cause any problems with anyone, so if I know where to look beforehand, I surely will. Thanks again, guys.

it would depend on site to site. Most websites don't like people hotlinking or deeplinking.

CTH applies a similar policy on the downloads page.
The script checks the referrer to make sure that you have downloaded from the CTH download page rather than a link from another site.

Hm. I guess I'll just have to be careful. Without thinking twice, I've hotlinked quite a bit in my day, never really saw the harm. Not worth pissing anyone off though, so I guess if I just can't help myself, I'll check the site for information on the subject first.

Now stop taking the focus off the article I posted!

Oh, I forgot to ask, while we're on the subject (of completely changing the purpose of this thread), is it possible to save the images I want to include in a post to my hard drive and hosting them myself to avoid using other sites' bandwidth, or perhaps uploading them?

there are sites such as photobucket that allow you to upload photos for linking to on sites such as this or ebay.

Obviously taking care to check the Copyright information on the image
