I received a Wacom Graphire 3 tablet and pen for Xmas and have installed the driver but my computer gives me the message "device not found" when I have the tablet plugged into a USB port. Any suggestions.

Try plugging the Graphire into other unused USB ports (if there are any).

If it doesn't work on other unused ports and if you have any other USB devices, you know their ports are good. So, unplug one and plug the Graphire into its port. If the Graphire is recognized, then the problem is with the port you've been plugging it into. (Don't forget to unplug the Graphire and plug the original device back in)

It may be you need to download the USB update for Windows 98SE (the update is not for Windows 98 FE). Information about it and a link to download it is in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, USB Devices May Not Work in Windows 98 Second Edition (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q240075).

If you don't know whether you have FE (First Edition) or SE (Second Edition), right click on My Computer, left click on Properties. If it doesn't say Windows 98SE on the General tab, then you have FE.

After poking around on the net, I found a few user reviews of the Graphire3 that stated the drivers that come with it are not reliable. You can download the latest drivers from this page (http://www.wacom.com/productsupport/drivers.cfm?os=win98&product=CTE). It's possible those are the drivers you already have since they are dated Dec. 10, 2003, but there's no guarantee Wacom packaged the newest drivers. ;)

Miz, Thankyou for trying to help. Someone on another forum suggested that I might need an externally powered USB for this device but I don't want to purchase that if I don't really need to. So will try what you suggested first. Irene

If the "power on" light doesn't come on when you plug the Graphire in, that could mean the power supply unit in the computer isn't big enough to take on an additional device. It can also mean the USB port isn't working. If trying my suggestions eliminates the USB port as being the problem then, yes, you probably will need to buy a powered USB hub.
