View Full Version : CD Autoplay

When I put Audio CD's in the CD drive, they don't play automatically for some reason. Auto Insert Notification IS ticked, and autoplay on CD-ROMs does work, just not Audio CDs.
On a similar topic, when I open up audio CDs, instead of having the tracks there as 'track1.cda' etc, it has the tracks as normal, but it also has 2 folders, Mono and Stereo. In each of these folders are 2 sub-folders called '16Bit' and '8Bit', and inside each of those are 3 sub-folders named '11025Hz', '22050Hz', and '44100Hz', and inside each of these folders are all the tracks in WAV format, each folder having the tracks in a different quality (ie. in either Mono or Stereo, either 16Bit or 8Bit, and either 11025Hz, 22050Hz, or 44100Hz).
Why are these WAV files of different qualities here? I have a CD-RW drive which might explain a bit, but still the fact that they are there is weird, i don't think they actually 'exist' because if you add up all these folders, it comes to 2.79Gb on this particular CD. Every CD does it, and they are ordinary Audio CDs.
The fact that these 'imaginary' WAV files are on the CDs might also explain why Audio CDs won't autoplay, but i want to know how to get rid of these non-existant files that have never been there before. They used to never be there, but about 3 mths ago they just appeared, and I didn't install any new programs that might have done that either.

Oracle,

Are you using TweakUI or any other tweaking programs ?

Are you using Windows Media Player to open your wav and cd files ?

OS ? 95, 98 or ME ?

There should be a registry fix (or at least something to double check) that you should look at.

Open up Regedit - Click Start/Run and type in REGEDIT

Navigate to the following registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\

If you aren't familiar with regedit always BACKUP any keys you are going to modify before editting anything http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/wink.gif

Again if you are not familiar with regedit you navigate around it in the same fashion you would Windows Explorer. The left pane contains the folders, and the right pane the contents of the folder you are currently on.

Try and look to see if there is a key there called NoDriveTypeAutoRun

If there is make sure that its value is 0000 95 00 00 00

If it doesn't exist create it.

To do this right click in the right hand window and click New>Binary Value

Call it NoDriveTypeAutoRun (no spaces - exactly how I've written it) and give it this value 0000 95 00 00 00

This should fix your autoplay problem.

For a nice graphical example of how the above looks Click Here (http://registry.winguides.com/display.php/5/)

For the wav opening part...

Put in an audio CD and go through MyComputer to open its contents.

Highlight one of the cda files for example track1.cda and then hold down shift and right click the file. Pick Open With.... and choose Windows Media Player or whatever music program you use to listen to your cd's.

Give it a go and pls let us know how it goes,

MiShY
